Cool and BAC is upstairs at the Airport. I will be flying in on Thursday and want to exchange some cash before getting into the city.

Buy today is 526? I've never seen this kind of drop at the first of the year. Why was there not a kick back after Christmas as usual? Whats going on? October I bought at 582. Mid-Dec.- 560. Mid Feb.-550. Is this going to continue? That's 10% in 5 months. Pretty substanial for us budget minded travelers.

According to the National Bank, it's 535. It's CR afterall, so it wouldn't shock me if their own website was wrong.

http://www.bncr.fi.cr

Yahoo finnace has it dropping more than 10 points since trading opened to 521 at this moment.

Not sure where you got that rate quote. The buy range at all banks licensed in CR both public and private is between 535.50 and 530.00 at 1:00 P.M.

One can trace the historical fluctuation of the USD purchase and sales rates at

http://indicadoreseconomicos.bccr.fi.cr

Then look at the Indicadores Economicos.

Did you make a typo? I don't get anything about economic indicators, I get some site about programming services

This worked though:
http://www.bccr.fi.cr/flat/bccr_flat.htm

Not that I could make any sense of it... but there's stuff there

I could have very easily made a typo. I just visited the site so I cut and paste the URL for you.

http://indicadoreseconomicos.bccr.fi.cr ... CodCuadro= 367

These are data points for the five year period of 2006 to present. The site give the exchange rate for every day since 1999. The number are really small and hard to read on a computer screen.

Some of the data are presented below. I selected the first day of each month for illustrative consistency. Because the numbers are very small and I have had a wee bit of Cognac so I may have made an error. Too tired to double check.

..........................2006 . . . . . 2007 . . . . . 2008 . . . . . 2009 . . . . . 2010
Jan 1...................395.65 . . . . 515.84 . . . . 295.23 . . . . 550.08 . . . . 558.67
Feb 1...................498.67 . . . . 516.58 . . . . 493.99 . . . . 555.16 . . . . 555.00
Mar 1. . . . . . . . . .501.37 . . . . 516.99 . . . . 493.09 . . . . 560.41 . . . . 548.00
Apr 1 . . . . . . . . . .504.74 . . . . 516.91 . . . . 491.57 . . . . 560.98 . . . . ---

If the URL doesn't work let me know and I will take notes when I click through and send the point and click process to you.

It is a sick mind that gets excited about economic indicies on a site dedicated to poos-eee.

I just previewed the data and it does not spread out on the final copy as it did on the Post a Reply page where you input data.

I made some adjustments to the presentation. Not perfect but it is more understandable than the way it was:

2006 2007 2008 2009 2010
Jan 1 395.65 515.84 295.23 550.08 558.67
Feb 1 498.67 516.58 493.99 555.16 555.00
Mar 1 501.37 516.99 493.09 560.41 548.00
Apr 1 504.74 516.91 491.57 560.98 ---

Definitely an error in the quoted January 2008 rate.

Near as I can figure it (and I'm not an economist nor statistician), the colon has inflated 12.5% against the dollar in 3-1/3 years. Is that what other better folks have reported?
METHODOLOGY: (high minus low) (divided into the low) (times the reciprocal of the reporting period) [10/3 = 3/10] thus 560.98-395.65 = 165.33 then divide by 395.65 = .418 then multiply by 3/10 = 12.5 % in 3-1/3 years. Am willing to abjectly apologize if this is flawed.

The rate almost reached 600 in late 2009. In October, I think it was like 586 or something.

Between late July to mid October the sell rate was in the low 580's and the buy rate about 10 colones higher.
