I have heard that many times but no one has ever backed it up with any empirical evidence. Can anyone show where prostitution is CR is not legal just not classified as illegal?

If prostitution, eating gallo pinto for breakfast and playing soccer are all activities that have not been legislated upon, doesn't that make them all activities that are both ''legal'' and ''not illegal.'' On the other hand, if I remember correctly, certain casino activities were recently viewed to be "illegal" because they were "not legal.'' Oh well, just another case of "Muy Tico.''

Yea, they should interview our party girl Luna at SL.

"So, Miss Luna, how do you feel about what you are doing"

"Since I am a nympho and I like to drink a lot, I find that I enjoy a leche chaser after my Pilsen. And, the money is good, too"

And I may be reading more into it than is there, but I do believe they consider the basis of the lies to be justified."

Those that love the lifestyle are few and far between. Those that tell you they love it usually have a drug problem that they love and they couldn't afford to keep that habit if they weren't in the biz. There is another group that will tell you they love it because they are smart enough to know that is what you want to hear.

The truth is the vast majority hate having fat old farts slobbering all over them. LOL ....... I wonder why?

That was the reason given by Mayor Araya when the San Jose municipal government shut down the Colonial and Del Rey sports books on Super Bowl Sunday 2004. He said since there was nothing in the Casino law specifically allowing sports book they were not legal. I do not remember him saying the were illegal he just insisted they were not legal. :?

I wonder if there is a specific clause in the health code regulating restaurants saying it is legal to serve hamburguesas

I have met women in my town who enjoy sex so much that they choose to do it and the money is just the icing on the cake. I’m sure this applies to some women in CR as well. The fact that so many of them travel to CR, where sex for money is legal, says for most of them it’s all about the money. I’m sure these women quickly learn how to use their imagination to get through any session.

We should show respect to the older mongers who are not only great guys but have also help make CR what it is today.

Much to do about nothing:

Every time something like this comes out we start pushing panic buttons and predicting the end of the world. This has come up at least once a year for the 12 years I've been paying attention. Yes there were other forums other than CRT. Not once has anything ever come of it. Not seeing anything different this time.

Could be some of us are just bored and are looking to push other people's buttons to see what reaction they get. Not that I would mention any names. 8)

Agreed. And if Laura Chinchilla becomes President, I see her being much like her mentor.... And by that I mean she will be shucking and jiving to get attention on the world stage rather than worrying too much about Costa Rica.

I saw the article Tuesday morning as I was en route to work from a long night beginning at mnf. I do not think it hurts anything for us, as the article probably could have been about the red light district in amsterdam if the names and nationalities changed. Maybe not.

IMHO, the definition of being legal is not being contrary to statute. Thus if something is not illegal it is therefore legal.

The image that all working girls hate their job is something Americans love to beleive.

I sure this reporter could find just as many girls who would tell him I enjoy this job and make a lot more at it than anything elso I would be doing. I have, and these are cases of women who have no reason not to be honest with me. Plus many girls hate the job not so much because they hate what they are doing, but because of the stigma towards prostitutes, especially in the US.

Plus this woman in her upper 30's is certainly not a typical CR chica.

The essential problem with getting a grip on this legal vs. illegal business is the legal model differences between the US and CR. In the US, we use the English common-law model (precedence-based); CR in stark contrast uses the Napoleonic Code model (case-by-case, with little reference to what other judges/ venues have decided). The US has a strong and usually swift appellate process whereas Nap. Code countries can take forever to finally adjudicate a case, if it's ever finally decided. The only US state to use the Nap. Code model is Louisiana, which is (sorry to step on toes here) arguably the most judicially corrupt state because of this. Also don't forget all law enforcement in CR is deliberately kept weak (splitting functions so there's no one agency has total responsibility for all facets of a case, and thus keeping LE as a weak force.), And doesn't the Judiciary have a major or the major prosecutorial function? All very confusing to this ol' boy.
In the US however the difference betwee legal and not-illegal can be illustrated thus: in Nevada there's laws saying prostitution is legal in most counties (explicit; de jure); in Rhode Island they rewrote the laws a while back and by accident or design, failed to make prostitution illegal, thus it's permitted (implicit; de facto). RI can add a few lines to it's Legal Code and BOOM! prosties are illegal; in Nevada it would take a major rewrite of the Criminal Code to outlaw.
I hope my bumbling attempt to explain makes this issue clear enough--I'm not a lawyer and (God help us all!) have never been a legislator.

Bingo! All this amounts to is a journalist creating a story because he/she needs to get paid for writing something - in other words, it's their job. If anyone still thinks that C.R. or any other major mongering venues are any big "secret" to anyone, I've got news for you - the cat is already way out of the bag...
