Isn't Mae more of a general exclamation, like "Dude!" One that's almost lost it's original meaning in the current usage?

I think of girls saying "Oh Mae!", not to any person or about any person, but in general.

Almost like saying Wow. Am I wrong?

companions--compas

My understanding of "COMPAS" was VERY good friends/muy buenos amigos, I am guessing it is being construed as tight/close companions/companeros above..

Is this incorrect :?: :?:

Archie and ElS,

In answer to your questions concerning the palabras 'mae(s)" and "compas", in the correct usage you are correct, but what I was listing is the coloqual (slang) usage. Per example the way the Ticos use these 2 words is really interchangeable. such as: Compas (or Maes) fui en la chante Relax hoy y atendi con Jenny y la hembra mama mi pinga como una loca. Ell is una wila muy riquisima, y ella pregunta me por regada en la boca. Despues mamaleme otro vez y coge como loca. Con este wila siempre por le hora son dos polvos!!

And yes, essentially they would be using these 2 words to say "my good friends" or "my comrades" in this site.

one word I forgot in the first post:
chica(s) -- wila(s)

regarse? To jerk oneself off????

Un regarse.... a jerk off? (adj)

One of my favorites:

Culo Boludo..."lazy" in Nicaraguan slang, when mi favorita tells me she decided not to go to work today I exclaim "Culo Boludo!"

Hey Arch... here are some study ideas that have worked...

Send blank email to:

join-wordoftheday-es@lists.lexico.com

this will subscribe you to Spanish word of the day...

Watch Spansh language TV with English subtitles (easily done between leches as you cuddle up in the cama with the novia)

The lists are good but you need to spend a portion of the day speaking and using it whenever you can. When GR and I went to Mexican restaurant recently here in the US we decided to speak exclusively in Spanish...probably to the mild amusement of our waitress...but we got everything we ordered.

Focus on the words you will be sing over and over again first..and verbs you use on a daily basis to have to go etc and get the tenses down for those. You can get overwhelmed otherwise.

Tenga suerte!

PR

I need some translation help for this email received from a chica I plan to spend some time with on my April trip. The online translators weren't of much help, left me confused. Considering the source I'm not surprised. :D

Thanks for any help!

She saying to not forget about her (now that you're back). She knows your girlfriend loves you and comes first; but don't forget about me (her)..

My love, now that you arrived, don't forget about me. I'm no longer friends with your novia. I know that she comes first, but don't forget about me. Kisses.

This is how a 2nd year ESL student would write English in the US. And people say the educational system is good down there?

:D Hmm, girlfriend? What girlfriend? :D That part did translate somewhat online.

Seriously, I don't have a novia either there or here, and I've told her that. Either this email was meant for someone else, or it's because I haven't been back to CR for over three months now that makes her think I actually have a girlfriend. :D

I'm thinking it's better if she thinks you do have a girlfriend.

I'm thinking maybe a chica that you were with told her that you are her novio to try to keep other chicas away from you. And that's how she got the idea that you have a novia.

That would work, except there isn't any other chica, since during my December trip she was the only one came over to my room. And aside from a few HLH sessions that was it. The "don't forget about me" part really threw me, since I had just emailed her telling her I would be back in town in April, obviously planning on seeing her again. :D

She did send me an RFM; I politely said no, maybe that was what gave her the idea of a novia. Or it was some other gringo she was thinking of. :D

Anyways, thanks all for the help, looks like I actually did understand the online translation after all. :D
