Ok, so I and a few others have been chastized a bit for thinking the recent "social change" in CR is nothing more than local officals doing some ball busting at local establishments. And that we are subscribing to some conspiracy theory. That it has nothing to do with NAFTA, CAFTA or any other type of US legislation. That CR, a small developing country, is immune from Uncle Sam.
Well, I did some quick research to see if anyone else might share my opinions. I located this video on youtube. It is Costa Rica specific, therefore, I legitimize my post here. I ask only that you watch it and listen CLOSELY to what is being said in OUR congress. Also, I would ask that if you can read Spanish read the video comments. Somthing to the effect of God Damn Gringos. Hey...I'm just repeating what was written. I know this is somewhat political but by the same token, I believe it is timely and more importantly, directly related to our hobby. So, form your own opinions, please. I am anxious to hear the consensus.

Sorta glad I'm not your average monger
I'm sorry there wasn't an option "both a.) and B.) as the two go hand-in-hand. From a distance and after a lot of reading, I believe:
1. The upcoming national and local elections have made prostitution a scapegoat issue, just as has been done all over the world. People are having fun, others resent it. Pleasure is wrong in serious times.
2. TV stories these days are made of blood, c*m, money or d**gs. Interesting... At least two of the elements are there...
3. Barrio Amon real estate is probably quite valuable in the San Jose market. Add historic significance and the neighborhood's aesthetic separation from the Gulch by the parks, no wonder local property owners feel anger over the nightlife intruding into their world. Does Cafe Mundo for instance lose revenue because it may have been labelled a gathering place for hookers and johns? How do the hotels' neighbors feel about loud parties, comings and goings of couples all through the night, etc.? How do you think the folks at the Hotel Don Carlos feel about a robbery at gunpoint almost across the street?
Were it not for the Internet and a$$hole mongers (present company excepted, of course) and the growth of globalism, I might have chosen from the first three options, but...
I chose Option #4.
