Thats why I put OCCASIONALLY in caps. For the "landslide" majority that is not what they came here for and they enjoy only the occasional joke. To me that is only tolerating it, to you that is approving it. Either way it is not a ringing endorsement of widespread tomfoolery. But throw that category of fence-sitters out and what do the statistics tell you? Why do you think a joke and smack talk section was created (even though the jokers don't seem to use it)other than to try and keep it out of the more serious discussions?

Again it is not my intention to single any one out (kc was not the only fart jokester) except only as examples of something much more widespread. And again I don't really have a problem with whatever anyone posts in a thread that was clearly never intended to be serious to begin with (such as the ball-shaving thread). As has already been pointed out, after a couple of pages of that stuff, it was pretty clear we were whipping a dead horse and one could simply ignore whatever else was posted if they so desired by simply not clicking on it. I also don't have a problem with the occasional quip thrown into otherwise serious discussions.

Where I do have a bit more of a problem is when that sort of levity starts to take over other threads. And I'm not saying it is a "This will bring down the board" problem or anything. More like an irritant (like sand in your swim suit). It is just that the volume of posts has grown to the point where its impossible to read every post any more and it is difficult to tell which of the threads that indicate fresh activity really have had added anything of substance and are thus really worth clicking on. Because of that and because I don't have the time to read or even skim all the posts like Boyd does, I think I sometimes wind up missing some of the more worthwhile stuff. The lighter stuff can be entertaining at times, but at other times it just seems like an irritant and this thread was started at one of those latter moments.

Now the moment has passed and there really is nothing more to say on the subject except that there are different views on the matter and everybody will probably just continue to post or not as they see fit. I've said my peace.

I really don't mean any disrespect, but I honestly don't get your argument.

First, I just don't see how the limited amount of humor in this board can be viewed as a "widespread" problem. Do an inventory, it is less than 10% of the posts, probably less than 5% of the posts. I just don't get where the "widespread problem" exsists. ---- and we are talking about humor, not drugs, not incest, but humor........ I just don't get it.

Second, you are complaining about the time to "read all the posts". These posts you are objecting to were in a thread that you wanted killed. If your reading time is so precious and limited, why are you wasting your time reading such threads?

Third, I am in that "OCCASIONAL" group and I am not a fence sitter and as far as I am concerned that it is a serious misuse of the data to suggest that you can throw out that group as insignificant in order to make your point. As it was the questions were written in a certain way to tilt th e results toward the outcome you wanted. (PocoLoco did not vote for this reason). Now you want to throw out data.

The bottom line is the data does not support your arguement. Only 37% say there is "way too much humor". The rest don't seem to have a problem with it. So you can say this or that about there not being a "ringing endorsment", but that is not the point? Frankly I am surprised and dissapointed that over a third of the members have a problem with the limited amount of humor you actually find here.

Humor IS not the reason I come here. I have rarely made humorous posts. However I do object to the uprising of the "humor police" and attempts to stiffel this type of post.

To me, being a gentleman means "respecting others". My understanding is that respect is the foundation of the group. If someone wants to tell a stupid joke, they should feel free to do so without having to deal with this sort of backlash. It is just not right.

I ditto your thoughts on this. I don't think we need censorship on an open forum & who is to judge what is funny & what is not. What is too much or what is too little??? I am sure we all see stuff we don't care for here but I rather gloss over it than complain. I guess if we were on a bar stool we would just move out of listening range of people that spoke about things that irritate us but this is a different situation that we have to learn to deal with here.

I don’t like some of the avatars or graphics that are on these web pages because some of the Gringas I work with have come around the corner faster than I could make the page disappear. Yeah I know it is nothing to us but let a self righteous gringa see it & they have been complaining that I am viewing pornography. The real problem is I pay NO interest in them & it pisses them off! Yes I could tell them where to put it but it is better to try to coexist with some form of harmony since I need these gringas to help me with making my vacation money . Imagine how they would be if they knew how much fun I was having without them ? In CR the Ticas wouldn’t have an issue like this with their boss expecting men will be men . What is funny the gringas put Male strippers etc as wallpaper on their computer & that is ok because it is a joke to them.

I rather see just text without any post counts on the pages so I could read them without anything cute FLASHING, like boobs & asses but it is a men’s forum so I have to limit these pages being open at times when no one is around. It is just the way it is .

The issue with the post counts has been repeated here. Many times it seems guys get jumped when they make a post with only 2 to 3 posts behind them. Many have it coming as they are trolls with spam but I feel we are maybe too quick to use that as a tool against them.

Certain venues are good for certain things. I like having some cyber friends to augment my real friends. I can be more open & honest here about my thoughts with cyber friends since they are in more of a safe zone than I could be with some of my real friends in person because of the wrath of them judging me by our hobby or sport we play at from time to time.

Look at all the little spats here that must drive admin1 “ape shit”! He has to lock threads & monitor us like little K*ds that can’t play nice. Lets face it people just have a lot of issues so it is nice to have a forum to communicate about things but yet not be so close that you have to deal with the cyclical part of real friendships, where so many people try to hurt others for petty reasons after they learn too much about you. Staying on the fringe has its benefits at least too me .

I believe this board will take on a life of its own shifting in & out of phases as new members come & go, which I see nothing bad about that .

You guys are right. I've been over-reacting.

As I said at the beginning, this thread was mainly a reaction to the frivolity I saw in the thread deletion thread, a serious thread that should have been a simple statement by the Admin with no additional commentary necessary, one that should have been locked down and eventually was.

While I shouldn't have gone so far as to say that frivolity on the board had become "widespread", I do think some guys somteimes get a bit too carried away with it. That is perfectly fine with me in humor threads and I'll even take part. However, I sometimes find it a bit distracting when it carries over into other areas. But then, I also realize some people don't like my posting style either. We don't all have to like everything that other people like but we do all need to get along. I can SUGGEST that people tone it down a bit or keep it to where it more appropriately belongs but I ALSO realize its ip to THEIR judgement whether, what and where they make their posts and I'll just have to continue to deal with it as best I can.

I said before I had nothing more to say and now I really mean it. I think this thread has run its course and deserves a dignified fade into oblivion.

It is a slightly sensitive issue for me. One of the biggest things that I was happy to leave behind when I moved down here is all the PC, overly regulated, over the top "thought police" non-sense that goes on in the States.

Just one quick note for those who would like less oneliner/pointless posts.

Part of the problem with discouraging that type of expression is that it may also lead those posters to participate less in this forum. I've have seen attempts to cut the "meaningless chatter" in other forums, and the end result is not only does the chatter stop, but the quality posts tend to start drying up as well. The end result is a forum with less meaningless chatter, but also less useful information.

Think about the people that participate in that kind of humor on this board. Many of them have 10+ trips down to Costa Rica and/or live down there. There is very little new info about ticas that they are going to get from this forum. However, they have a vast amount of knowledge that can be useful to less experienced mongers like myself. I for one have no problem with them making one line jokes in serious threads, since they are often willing to provide great infomation to any who ask, as well.

There is a separate issue regarding declining quality of information on this forum. If it is happening, I don't believe it is because of the joke posts. I can point to three more likely reasons:
1) Most of what has been said about picking up hookers in San Jose has already been said. How much more can be written about the DR, KL, NYB, SL, ZB. After a few trips, there is not a whole lot more to know about these places.

2) Guys are leary of getting burned. There have been so many cases of guys getting burned on this and other boards for pics and/or messages that they post, that I am sure the quality of posting (especially trip reports) has suffered. I personally have had great expericances with a several girls with gringo novios. However, I won't post to many details, and certainly not pics, because I don't want it getting back to the chica, with her losing her monthly WU checks, and me losing sources of good, reliable ,cheap poontang.

3) Guys have a few "trade secrets" that they don't want to devulge, for fear of it getting ruined by too many other guys using it. If you have been there more than once, I am sure most guys have developed a few tactics to find a cheaper girl, get better service, etc. I am also willing to bet that a lot of guys are not posting those "secrets". For example: lets say that you found out that the super hot check out clerk at the local Farmacia would let you Phuck her in the ass while her twin sister licks your balls for $20 TLN. How many of you guys would post her exact details to let all of your "brothers" know about this great find? Most of these things aren't really secrets, just things not posted about much.

I believe this board still has its very good points, the hard work of Admin1 can't be questioned and the plentuful chicas as well as the camaraderie of the guys is what keeps me coming back

I have met and become friends with many members, I am sure some of these friendships will last a lifetime.

Like I said earlier, for many veterans the board eventually goes beyond being just an information site and becomes a source of entertainment- a way to stay in touch & have fun between trips and share anticipation for the next one. No doubt suggesting the excessive BS and one-liners stay in the smack section is warranted at times but you do make a point about driving posters away, it appears a couple long time posters have recently said they'll not return, for whatever reason. There are many pet peeves worse than the smart-aleck posts we could complain about like Prolijo dropping in after a long absence telling us how things should be done better.

In response to your points above:
1) Yes everything has been covered here time and time again so maybe joking around is a way not to be bored to tears re-hashing the old limited info about the gulch and little country of CR. Are we supposed to just sit around waiting to make only serious informative responses to the next newbie question since this is just an information site? How lame would this site be then?

2) Yes many vets have been burned by gringos talking too much or chicas reading the site, it's happened to me 3 times so I no longer post names, many pics or too many details of my escapades.

3) Yes I believe a lot of CRT members wish CR was still a secret and don't post because they think there's already too many gringos and too much easy info available already, and can you really argue with that?

This site has always had a life of it's own and gone in many directions while suffering growing pains and there's always some big deal being made about something, this topic is probably just another bump in the road not worth worrying about and CRT will adjust and swerve back on track, occasionally a few guys fall off and a few crybabies jump ship and somebody tries to dump the whole thing over but I just hold on and leave the driving to Admin1!
