Tag heuer has a nice pair of those thick retro glasses that are so popular right now.I am looking to buy a pair soon with yellow lenses.

I priced transition/progression bifocals at the shop across from the Morazon the last time and I was quoted 10 mil for exam and a little over $200 for frame, lens, antireflective, shading, etc. I paid around the same at Costco.

You got the gringo quote. An exam for contact lenses which is usually more expensive than for glasses only cost me 5 mil max (and as little as 3 mil) in CR. And glasses rarely run over $100 (or 50 mil) there.

Two months ago I got an eye exam, lenses (bi-focal) and frames at Optica Vision. Total cost was $17.50.

I too have had very good service from Optica Vision. Always request the anciano discount. While I have not purchased frames, I have had my Rx put in very expensive titantium rimless frames at a cost of 18,900C for poly carbonate. High index is a bit more for the ever so vain....(and that price is a lot more than what ID paid.....ID....can I tag along with you to the store the next time?)

Who has the quickest turn around time? I usually fly in on Thursday and leave on Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest, and pretty sure they don't work on weekends; so three days is cutting it too close for my taste.

I check back with them and ask them for a quote, then ask for the TICO price. (in Spanish of course)

Optica Visions are open 7 days in many locations. Turn around time is usually 2 days.

Just to add to ID's posts on this subject:

I just this morning went to Opticas Vision in the Outlet Mall in San Pedro for an exam and new glasses.

Unlike the USA where no matter how good of shape your old frames are in they will not change the lenses, here they do as a matter of course. The exam was c3000 (and was done by a very attractive Colombiana)!!

Replacement plastic bifocal lenses with antiray protection and UV filter were c11,800. Strangely, computer glasses (again, lenses only and single vision) were more!! c16,300.

And with buying the two pair, the exam was free!!

Total cost for two pair of glases and exam = c28,100 ($56) and they will be ready Friday afternoon.

I had cateract surgery and they replaced the lens in my eyes with artificial plastic ones which did correct 90% of my vision but because of stigmatisms, they could not correct my vision completely. I have been using old glases for the past year but as I age my sight continues to deteriorate and now I need a new prescription.

Sounds like maybe at least Walmart is finally getting more consumer minded!!!!!!! My understanding is that the reason most will not replace the lenes in old frames is that the frames is where most place make their money!!
