WOW what a fantastic country Costa Rica is. Two days it took for them to fix the problem. We now have CBS and ABC but still no NBC. In fact the CBS affiliate is now NY instead of Erie Pa which is even better. (Unless you love Joey the weatherman) See guys, you CAN have your cake and eat it too, living here in CR. WHAT A COUNTRY WOOHOO

...and here I thought you guys still living in CR would take advantage of the lack of USA television to practice your spanish, read a good book, and get more immersed in the Tica culture... :? Obviously AMNET has decided they dont want that to happen :P ...or the high powered pressure of LVSTeve, IrishDrifter and LV Bob really caused some quick internal response to the dilemma. You guys have clout! Congrats...and long live CSI, 60 minutes and Good Morning America...

An illusionary victory at best :o Tonight we are back to having CBS being broadcast by WSEE of Erie, Pennsylvania so we one again have the pleasure of Joey the weatherman, Otters Hockey and enough infomercials to fill 12 hours of broadcasting daily. ABC is once again blacked out during prime time and NBC is still missing in action

NBC is back. ALso, ABC wasn't blocked during prime time tonight. Hopefully that will be permanent.

The US TV channels is one of the few first-world perks I cherish. Ironically, twenty years ago we had much better access. Back then we had the US version of HBO, Showtime, TNT, TBS plus the networks.

The satellite setup works well if you have the space and money. One problem is that during rainy season the signal can be hit or miss.

Well I guess the U.S.network issue has been resolved. We are now getting ABC and CBS from New York, and NBC from L.A. I heard that Amnet actually steals the hook-ups and doesn't pay for them. This is probably true because on our roll a dex we don't get listings for these networks or ESPN (in English)

Not only did AMNET start broadcasting the LA NBC channel instead of the NY one they went back to blocking ABC during prime time :(

It is really confusing getting CBS prime time two hours ahead of CR time and NBC prime time 1 hour behind CR time :?

Are you guys still having problems? I was able to watch ABC prime time shows last week.
As for stealing the signal, that's not exactly correct. The distribution rights are usually defined by the production studio. With some shows, the distribution rights have been sold through other media (local channels, LatAm cable channels), but with other content no one owns the distribution rights for Costa Rica (think local news, late night shows). What I've heard about people in the TV business is that the US studios are becoming less anal about exclusive distribution for less valuable properties. Disney, which owns ABC, has historically been very jealous of its content which explains why they were most agressive in blocking their programming.

It appears that all three US major networks are now shown here in CR through their Denver affiliates. I guess that's good because at least we get the programing at the same time. It's nice to see the 6 o clock news at 6 o clock instead of at 4pm

It's a lot better for watching prime time shows also. They follow central time so they are only an hour off schedule instead of 2 like NY.

The only problem is who knows how long it is going to last :? . During the month of April we have had no NBC, NBC New York, NBC LA and NBC Denver.

CBC has been NY, Erie, Pa., LA & Denver

ABC: NYC, LA, Denver. Sometimes we get prime time ABC other times it is blocked. :P

Is they a great country...or what :?:

YO Channel Changers:

NBC, CBS, ABC ??? Shit, you have not missed anything. They are all glued to the hip. Another thing I do not like about CR is the variety of american cable programs offered. Which, in the states, is the most inclusive array of interests despite your tastes. Yea, I know. When in Rome........................ Just can't get female mud wrestling when ya want to.

WOOHOO,I think I finally caught ID in a mistake. The Denver stations are on the same timezone as CR and not an hour difference. I discovered this when I was watching their news and the time shown was the same. GEE I hope I am right because he doesn't make many errors.

I don't think you caught him this time, I think he knows the news at 6 is at 6 but he's saying the prime time shows are an hour off instead of 2 from what he is used to.

Sorry to burst both of your bubbles,BUT ID stated that Denver was in the CENTRAL TIME ZONE.This is INCORRECT as it is in the MOUNTAIN TIME ZONE which this time of the year is the SAME as CR.
