ID,
Thanks for the tip on Dr. Sergio Chen. I broke a tooth several days ago, felt sure I would need a crown. Dr. Chen worked me in the next day. He told me a crown was not needed, and a simple filling would do the job. He repaired my broken tooth and also repaired a nagging problem on another tooth which had previously been poorly repaired by my U.S. dentist. Dr. Chen seems to be a fine dentist and a gentleman. He was constantly concerned during the procedure if I were feeling any pain [which I didn't].

ALL THIS FOR A TOTAL OF $28.00 :D :D :D

I saw Dr Chen over my last trip in June.

He did a thorough sonic cleaning, fixed a broker tooth (which required a Root Canal as well as a crown), as well as fixed a cosmetic problem that I wanted fixed.

Over 3 hours in his chair (a fine gentlemen he is also) This was all performed for $ 300 american.

At the end of my procedure he insisted that I call him in a couple of weeks for a report on how I was doing or if I had any problems.
I have been home for a little over two weeks now with absolutely no problems. I will be seeing him again on my next trip

My guess for this work in the states would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $ 1,500

My Amigo........ChicaGoGuy,
Thanks for your input on Dr. Chen as well. Definitely helped make my decision to see him, based on what you had told me while we were at the Castillo.

My pleasure, just wanted to share the info and great advise I had received from the other board memebrs who have used Dr Chen

He is a true professional very concerned with the care of his patients and will most definitley be using him again in the future.

Glad you has a good experience as well $ 28 for a filling, what would that be in the states $ 150-200 minimum.

Great to see you again down there, sorry we did not hook up for any activities. Keep me posted as to your next trip down. Hope your son had fun

B

I saw Dr. Chen today. I'm getting one root canal and two crowns. About one fifth the price my U.S. dentist wanted. :)

on the left side, barely open left eye...My dentist gave me a script for 1 week, then wants to do a root canal, before I leave for colombia in 13 days, then I come back and get the thing crowned.....Price 1450. My insurance takes care of 800. of it....Would I be better off to have it puled, then have an implant????And while I am on this subject, when the whole side of my face is swollen, I need tooth 13 replaced with an implant....How much down there??? Its 2500. here.

Hey Zig, about 750.00 according to  http://www.arrivacostarica.com./

You could email Prisma  http://cosmetics-dentistry.com/index.htm or one of the other recommended dentistas.

Quote:

Implant is a multiple visit procedure
1. implant placement with healing cap
2.return for uncover and impression
3. return for placement of restoration

This will take several weeks up to a year factor benefit of extra trips and cost when comparing prices

just talked with a friend of yours last nite.....I will see him soon, but, the deal down there is more like 1000., so maybe I am better off up here, with my dental insurance! Oh, and by the way, Paco, Medellin sucks, and it is dangerous!!!!!!!! Afterall, yur friend has had his pockets picked, but guess that is O.K., as I am coming up on the 1 yr. annvsy. of my mugging....Remember the day, Colts lost to Steelers, and then the Bears lost to Carolina....one week from tomorrow!
