Thanks for the info, although you being the horses mouth makes me wonder who you are?

Real strange how I post that notice and within 30minutes I get text messages chewing my ass for telling on them about Western Union. And they are rushing to change their phone numbers

Somebody found the horse’s mouth real quick

Costa Rica has extended its entry restrictions in response to the coronavirus pandemic until June 30.
Until at least that date, Costa Rica will deny entry to tourists and non-resident foreigners, the Health Ministry announced Friday. The restriction applies to the country’s ports of entry via land, air and sea.

In addition, citizens and residents entering Costa Rica will be assigned a mandatory 14-day quarantine by Immigration Police.

What would tourists have to do? I cannot imagine they let tourist run amuck whilst citizens and residents are well controlled in quarantine.

What would a 14-day tourist quarantine be? Plus I am sure there is a $100 test too.

The CR government has some special hotels to keep you in during the 14 day quarantine and make sure you do not leave. They will cost you at least $110 a day. I am getting that info from an article I read on returning tico crew from The Rhapsody of the Seas finally being allowed to come ashore. Royal Carribean picked up the tab for the crew.
Don't think you would be allowed to quarantine at any of our favorite hotels.

Costa Rica will open up to tourists. It represents 9.6% of their gnp.
I believe June 15 it will open.

Border closing just officially extended until at least June 30.

Do you think tourists will have to do the 14 day quarantine too? People booking hotel rooms better be thinking this through. Book your room for 14 night!

Would only be a guess as they have not said when they might let tourists in. Not before the end of June for sure. Once they get a plan for that I'm sure they'll talk about the rules around it.

The current rules are for returning residents/citizens, with the 14 day quarantine. My understanding is that they can do that at their residence.

They'll probably set up something for tourist arrivals from countries with Covid19...but it would only be a guess. They seem to announce these changes around 15 days before the expiry date of the current rules...so look to mid June for either an extension of the current restrictions past July 1, or a set of restrictions to deal with opening up the borders.

Other countries opening up to foreigners are requiring quarantines, testing, etc. so it would be unlikely, in my opinion, that it will just open up to what it was before. Based on the way they (CR gov) is handling things I would be surprised if it was not quite restrictive.

While no one knows when the borders will open, I'll provide some additional context/perspective. Yesterday during the daily press conference the Minister of Health announced that parks, which were scheduled to open at 50% capacity on Monday (June 1), will now remain closed until July 1 because of the recent increase in cases.

Parks. Like where old dudes sit and feed pigeons. Go around the police tape and sit on a bench, get a fine. If that shit is closed until July 1 there's no way borders open at the same time. I still think we're looking at August as a best case. FWIW

What is not clear from what I have read of the extension of border closure to June 30 is: if they lift the border closure on June 30 (or whenever they do lift it), will the 14-day quarantine rule go away at the same time? If they lift the border closure but still require 14 days of quarantine, for tourists the borders will still effectively be closed. Who wants to spend the first 14 days of a vacation in a quarantine hotel?

I'm looking forward to getting back to CR as soon as possible, but I certainly am not returning to Costa Rica until the quarantine rule goes away.

Yes that is the 6 million dollar question. Very few of us can afford a two week lockdown just to justify a subsequent 1 week vacation.

Don't forget the two weeks once you return home.

One told me today that she uses Western Union kind of like a bank. She knows the money is safe there and some gringo sent $XXX, so if she needs to go shopping one day, she will take the transaction number code thing they exchange down to Western Union and withdraw that amount knowing she has dozens more codes waiting for her to pick up. If she went and picked them all up, she would be a target for robbery.

These poor girl! So many are surviving so well despite no customers.

You can always claim that the trip was for the relief of mental and physical stress due to self isolating
