Guys I have quite a different view on the subject. I have only visited CR on four occassions. Each visit I have met more people in general. Not just the chicas.
When it comes to the working girls that I have been with. Some only once or twice. They always present me as their Novio.
It is just a term of endearment for the masses that travel to CR for stinky pudding. I dont mind the term being used by the ladies because I know. And they know that I am their Novio for the time that I am with them and it is temporary.
When the guys use the term Novia. It cleans up the transaction my brother. What is wrong with it?
I have gotten married several times over in Costa Rica and I have had countless Novias.
When the time comes and Toll bell rings. Truth sets in.

50...... the term "novia" is not the issue. Crossing the line between fantasy and reality has always been the issue. That's when an individual needs a reminder that "Your "Novia" is a Hooker... Walk Up and Smell the Coffee. Stop the cash and watch the "love" come to a screeching halt.

When a chica refers to you as her "novio" she's doing nothing more than "working you". She actually wants you to think there IS something there so you will be inclined to be more generous. These chicas are generally smarter than we give them credit for.

On my last trip a couple of weeks ago I spent some time every day with 2 Colombian amigas I have known for almost 2 years. They make lunch, we hang out, blah, blah, blah. There is no sexo and no money exchanged. I do my screwing elsewhere. It's only friendship. I listened in to several "suckers" call them who think they have something special with these working girls. You should have heard the calls. They put their cell phone on speaker phone. I wanted to gag and in fact kept doing the puking motion with the chicas smiling as they talked to the "novios". I even translated for them what they wanted to say in emails and even did the typing. Both of them made requests for cash on the phone for plane tickets back to Colombia and the dudes sent the money. Both of them had plenty of money saved up to go home for a month. The point is this is business to them and they will NOT leave money laying on the table if they can help it. In fact, they don't think much of a guy who behaves this way. Business is business though.

The point being.... know the rules of the game and one comes out a winner... disregard the rules and you're phucked. That's the nature of the beast.

Of course, everyone is free to do as they wish. We are all big boys. I respect all working chicas. Nevertheless, I am not foolish enough to think there is any "love" in the P4P relationship.

Agree completely that everyone is free to do as they please, and when I read about some of these suckers sending hundreds or in some case thousands of dollars to a prostitute so he can make an “honest women” of her, I am free to staunchly criticize such behavior for the following reasons:

1. The guy is being a sucker
2. It encourages other chicas to model that same behavior
3. It generally inflates prices as chicas tend to think we have nothing better to do with our money than give it away for nothing
4. It generally reflects poorly on all gringos as we are seen as weak, ruled by women, easily manipulated etc.

As I have said before, there are a myriad of reasons for this behavior on the part of the “mark”, it relates to his conditioning by Gringa dominated U.S. society, his need to feel important, etc, etc. Frankly, I like keeping this thread alive so that when the next neophyte would be monger comes in declaring his undying love, and financial commitment to a Del Ray Debutante, we can just point to this thread and invite him to read it.

Look at this from the perspective of the person the post was aimed at – the newbie. If you are a seasoned veteran and you know this game and you have your relationship with your “novia” in check, then this post is of no value to you.

If you are new to the game and you have a little hottie telling you she wants a gringo boyfriend, blah blah blah, then go back to page one, read the original post, don’t assume you know that your situation is somehow different….then take the good advice given and go do five more chicas and get it in perspective before it ruins you.

When I was in college I had a group of guy friends and we referred to ourselves in jest as the “chump club.” This was because we all seemed to fall head over heels for just about any good looking chick who gave us the time of day. I have moved on from that way of thinking but I know there are a lot of “chumps” out there who would benefit from going back to page one and reading the original post.

The post didn’t deserve 15 pages of discussion but it does deserve to be kept at the front of the line.

Thanks for the advice. I now see the error of my ways. My novia was indeed a prostitute. I caught her with another gringo recently in San Jose. Obviously, I am heartbroken. However, I am looking into having the boys braces removed immediately!

This is probably a vast generalization but any Tica who is approached by one of us gringos and sleeps with us immediately and then receives (expensive) gifts is most likely a prostitute regardless of the timing and method of payment. In general the girls in CR who are not prostitutes are pretty catholic and conservative and want to protect their reputation and not shell it by phucking somebody 20 years older than them from a different country who does not speak their language in the first week. So if you find yourself wrapped up with one of the ticas in the first week odds are shes a puta(I prefaced that this is a very broad generalization) Most of these girls do care what others in the neighborhood think, we are just jaded because everyone we see in the gulch is from the same ilk....think its something like adverse selection

Maybe she's not a prostitute but just a very nice woman who happened to see a gringo with a hard-on and as an act of kindness allowed him to relieve his agony inside her, and as a thank you, the gringo tipped her with a CIEN. Think possitive Jim!

Isn't "amante " a more appropriate phrase? A CRTer said it meant "lover of the moment". Even Chicas in Socal always say "Mi amor" but I know it is a term of endearment not permission LOL. If I asy amante to a Ticas...is she going to get pissed off?

Has anyone done an acurate cost-benefit analysis of turning that prostitute into a novia? Hardly seems worthwhile to me but I'm not a guy buying them diamonds and cars either. I was curious how much it costs to get a pretend novia "off the market" so I took a little survey at the HDR last week. I asked quite a few how much they would need to quit working if they met a potential novio (gringo) and made it clear I was looking for a serious answer. One pretty Tica I know (and did Fri. night) laughed at my starting offer of $200/week. She thought about it for a minute and said $500/week which is what she averages now. The lowest answer I got was $200/week and several said 300/week. Now I know some guys claim to support their novias on half that or next to nothing but I wonder how honest these guys are about how much money they give. One chica said "$1200.00/month is nothing (for a gringo)" and she has a point, since they think we are all rich. A chica would just really have to hate the biz to give up the dinero, and the ones raking it in consider it easy work.
No way I'm paying 10k-24k/year to (supposedly) keep a "novia" faithful. I can make a lot of trips and have all the temporary novias I can stand for that amount of money.
