Are you saying SL does not accept VISA? Did you try a VISA card or inquire if VISA was acceptable? If you did not then what is the point in your post? The thread was about whether VISA was accepted not about the acceptance of MC.

actually, the post was about MC acceptance, not Visa. I do not carry a Visa. Thanks for the input. it would never have occurred to me that there would be a premium on straight usage, and I worked in the banking industry. Good to know, even if it is bad news.

advised my cc company that I would be in CR, and MC confirmed for me that there is a 2% surcharge on usage outside of N.America. Apparently this is not bank specific, and is true for ALL MCs. :evil:

The charge is bank specific or at least if it is not bank specific some banks swallow the charge.

I use MC & VISA extensively in CR, my US based bank, does not charge me any fees and gives a very good exchange rate.

CapitalOne visa has no extra charges for purchases outside of the U.S. They also give you fair exchange rates.
