Two weeks ago, I went to Fridays in Escazu on a Sunday afternoon. It was FULL of Tico familys enjoying the Fridays fare. Lots of birthday type celebrations going on. Yesterday, I took the chica to Outback for an early dinner. The Outback (as mentioned by Ding Dong) is in the same strip mall as Hooters. The parking lot was full. People were parking illeagly anywere they could. We had to wait 20 min. for a table. I looked over at Hooters and saw a line of people (mostly Ticos) waiting to get in. Just upscale young Ticos in expensive SUVs out for a taste of American life.

Point is from what I've seen, these high end American chains are targeting rich Ticos. They are not interested in Gringos from the gultch. Thats why they place these establishments out in the suburbs of Escazu and Santa Ana.

LVSteve...is the Fridays near the Mall de San Pedro still open? I went there one time with a Tica favorita and was not impressed. Also, the chica I was with told me that our waitor made somewhat of a disparaging remark to her about being with a much older Gringo. I thought that was surprising considering it was CR.

Doesn't anyone remember the Hooters in Jaco? On about my third trip to CR, back in 1998, I visited Jaco for the first time, and there was a Hooters located across the street from the Beatle bar (on the 'ocean' side of the street) and down the street a little. It had the same orange atmosphere, signs, etc., but not the waitresses. The next time I was in Jaco, about six months later, it was gone. I don't know if it was affiliated in any way with the Hooters chain in the US, but I doubt it.

Not sure about the Hooters in Jaco but, yes, the Fridays in San Pedro is still open. My Novia and I used to go there for the exotic drinks and appetisors (spelling sucks, huh?). We never encountered a problem with the service or the attitude of the staff.

My guess is that the new Hooters will fail miserably once the novelty wears off. Hooters is known in the States for tits and burgers. Guys can see tits anywhere they go here in CR and the quality of beef for hamburgers sucks so why bother going.

I have to admit I for one like Hooters in the States.. the girls are usually hot, sorry I like their wings and their burgers and I can catch the game at the bar with nobody no hassle with some good eye candy...

I also have to admit I always wondered what a hooters would look like filled with TICAS as the waitresses.... Since my company often books me at the Interecontinental a hop skip and a jump from hooters in Escazu, I will be happy to give a first hand report and also fulfil my fantasy of hooters gals that are all Ticas.. Sorry its the truth...

I suspect it will do well. US Chain food is better than most here as well. To be sure, I went for lunch, the food is identical to the states. I know a girl who got hired on, she was explained to in no uncertain terms, that going home with a client is a termination offense. One nice thing is they are letting the girls keep their own tips. I am not sure if that includes the 10% added though.

You stay out of Hooters, me for one, will go there on my next trip. I don't understand why a Gringo like you would want a business to fail? You are not going to stop San Jose from getting a little "americanized" Shoot there are tons of american restaruarnts there, why the heck would you want the business to fail? If the establishment does ok, then good for Hooters! Costa Rica is still going to be CR, even if they have a SH>> load more american restarunts open up. There still going to be hot women every where that love american men, there still going to be tight pant, tight asses everywhere, there still going to be whores working in the Del Rey and massage parlors. Dude, if you don't like what is going on in San Jose, then instead of staying out of Hooters, STAY OUT OF COSTA RICA!!

Superman always has a very direct and unique way with his words , but I agree with his fundamental point 100%... there's no real reason for trying to create a boycott of a restaurant, only because it is American...

Personally, I love the wings there and go about once a week, especially when my favorite team is playing. Has nothing to do with the girls in skimpy outfits (ok, well, maybe a little, but not the deciding factor here). Personally, I WILL visit the Hooters in SJ on my next trip and take a few of my tico and tica friends to treat them to a longtime favorite franchise of mine. I LOVE their buffalo wings and buffalo shrimp and curly fries and clam chowder and... well, you get the point. I can't wait to take some of my favorite Sportsman's staff along with me to give them a taste of home (MY home, as like I said I frequent the place alot), so to speak.

To each his own, I guess.

Just curious, but has anyone been there to find out if they serve American beer (i.e., Bud Light, Miller Light, etc.,etc.)?

The cien issue is complex & simple guess it is how we look at it. I pride myself on being smart enough to get a good deal. I don't walk into a new car dealership & say hey I am not a tight wad & I will be happy to pay top dollar.

Look most the gals will go with you for $50 TO 80 EVEN many of the Colombianas. My friend that is 70 years old put me to shame years ago with his bargaining ability so I felt stupid that I had been paying more than him. I am in my 40s & not totally ugly or fat even got hair & a hard dickk to boot. So any man should spend his money the way he wants & if it makes some guys feel like big shots to throw their money around with P4P Chicas that will be laughing at all of us when we leave because I hear what they say go right ahead.

If they were so called normal girls maybe you would impress them but these are impressions I personally like to stay away from because even if you can afford it which you & I can it just raises the bar ever higher & who needs that. I rather be able to keep their attention on me & the price down with a little cleverness with personality etc. Again too each his own. If I am dead as tired I am less likely to argue about $20 to mess up the mood.

So stay out of Hooters but pay the DR girls two to four times as much as a good MP charges for an hour with a proven girl. What else can I get your advice on?
