You prefer the weather and nasty beach in Jaco to the central valley? :?

I too would like to go to DR one day but the costs and flights also suck from here.

There is another big difference that hasn't been mentioned. It might be more fair to compare Sosua to Jaco and for that Sosua would most likely win. If you're into the beach scene and mongering there are places that mix the two far better than CR. Rio is another monger destination that comes to mind. Pattaya is another. CR has the option of a 2 hour drive to Jaco or a little further to better beaches or overnighting in Jaco for a far less extensive mongering experience, but if a tropical beach is a central part of your vacation experience there are certainly better destinations. OTOH, the weather in the central valley is a lot cooler and more temperate than those other beach locations I've just mentioned.

Ultimately, I really hate these either-or type comparisons. I much prefer the pros-cons types of comparisons. No one place is perfect for all individuals under all circumstances. To the extent that any place does sort of fit that description it is because it is a compromise on a lot of different attributes. A lot depends on such factors as
    what your schedule is like,
how much time you will be there,
what is the cost and convenience of various travel connections from your place of origin,
whether you plan to be a total monger or whether you have interest in other activities,
    what those other activities are,
what is your taste in women (YMMV),
whether you are a GFFE seeker or a LAL guy,
whether you shop for TLN's or prefer to get your nut off and pay them to leave,
what your prefered venues are (MP's, soapies, termas, bars, strip joint, street)
whether you already have local/regional familiarity and comfort level or whether you want to try someplace new and different
And that just scratches the surface. Everyone is different. No one place is perfect for all people or for any one person perfect at all times.

Yes. I guess if I had to make one little change I would chose a better beach. Perhaps Quepos or Tamarindo. I hate the weather in SJ. Everyday it's rain. Clouds up in the afternoon and by 4pm it's virtually dark. Another hour or so and it is dark. I like my long summer evenings and plenty of sun.

And, I agree with Prolijo. No place is everything to all people. You really have to weigh the pros and cons for each destination. Costa Rica is an easy winner for me because:

Reasonably easy to get to CR. I know I bitch alot about the travel to and from the airport in the US. But, regardless of where I go I'll have to do this.

Great variety of women. Virtually every latin culture is represented. And, the primary reason for my initial visit to CR was that I love latin women.

Beach is only about 2 hours away.

I know the country, speak the language reasonably well and know local people. (I'd love to try Brazil but I know ZERO Portugese)

While CR might be more expensive for chicas, food, lodging etc..it is more convenient than Dominican for travel purposes. My vacations are usually 4 or 5 days. Can't waste too much time with layovers and connecting flights. Some day, maybe, I'll live in S. Fla. I'll have an "Easy" button for trips to Latin America.

It's not always paradise living in S. FLorida, as we've all seen over the past 2 hurricane seasons. We've had 7 hurricanes hit Florida over the past 15 months, causing 10's of billions of dollars worth of damage.

But.....after all the smoke clears, it sure is nice to jump on a plane in MIA and be in paradise 2 hours later !!
