Its 7:15PM and I just left the Paradisio casino where I was among 6 other gamblers in the place.
On the way home, I encountered about 10 cars. Streets are deserted.
Most resturants are closed up. Did notice that the supermarket was open.
Went a Mas por menos today and noticed long lines as people were stocking up for the long weekend.
Tomorrow AM, I'll check out what casinos are open and what the drink policy is.

The Blue Marlin web cam shows it to be empty and the barstools on the bar at 4:30 AM Thursday morning. Dead.

What a contrast.

Hi all;
Its 7:00PM and I just got home from downtown where I spent most of the day. Here is my report:

After driving on deserted streets, I arrived in the gultch around 11:00AM.
Parked on the street - no problems.
Went into the Marazan hotel - Casino closed, lobby and resturant open.
Next, walked into the Del Rey. Coffee area open. Casino area roped off -they are using the holiday as an oportunity to retile the floors in the casino area. Bar roped off also. Saw three chicas and about 5 gringos hanging around the coffe bar area.
Next, walked down to the colonial - doors locked - no sign.
Then walked up to the Horseshoe - same deal as colonial.
Then I walked down to the Presidente - News cafe going strong. Fiesta Casino closed.
Walked up the hill to the Gran Hotel Costa Rica - much to my surprise, the casino was open. Sat down and played on one of the tables - not crowded. Couldn't ask for a drink. Coffee and soft drinks only.
Later, in the afternoon, around 2, I went down to the Paradisio where every Chineese in San Jose was playing pio gow. No booze but casino open.
Left there about 10 min. ago and made it home in record time as the streets were totally deserted. Reminded me of those old movies about what a town is like after a nuke attack. Dead!
I understand that tomorrow is worse.
Will let you know.

Yes, EVERYTHING will be closed. You will have trouble buying a pack of ciggerets. Resturants, markets, gas stations, everything!

While both today and tomorrow are legal holidays there is a world of difference. This is still a catholic country and while a lot of Ticos are not particularly religious they still observe some teachings of the Church.

Therefore Friday will be much quieter than Thursday.

Those movies are among my favorite in the world! I am going to wander downtown tomorrow just for the joy of it. If I see anything of interest I promise to report.

Yo Bilko;
Remember "On The Beach"?
thats the one that came to mind.
I can't remember everyone that was in it, but I do recall Fred Astair and David Niven.

How about that Twilight Zone episode where the guy is the only one left
in New York City after an apparent nuke attack. The guy wanders from street to street, and he is the only one left alive.

Ok just back to Casa - its Good Friday night.
Started the day by walking into the Del Rey. Counted 2 chicas and 14 Gringos all in the coffee bar area. Casino area still roped off.
Fiesta - closed
horseshoe - lo mismo
tropical - closed but resturant open..
colonial - closed.
Fiesta at airport - closed
Heradura in Carrari - closed.
Gran Hotel CR casino - open (lost 30K)
Paradisio - open (made 100K)

Streets continue to be almost deserted. A lot of the homeless are out tonight and seem to rule the streets. Very little police presence - drove fast with doors locked.

Automarcado was closed as was my local AM/PM so had to stop at Burger King to buy milk and OJ for the morning.

LVSteve
PS: Hear that many stores and markets will re-open tomorrow around 10.
