T-mobile works in CR but it's pretty expensive. A calling card is good to get and much more reasonable. Perhaps you can leave a number of the hotel that you're staying and let the hotel operator know to slip any messages under the door. Then you could return the call on the calling card. Talking a few hours on a cell phone in CR would set you back an airfare.
