Nope! If I lived in country, you damn right I could. It's good to come up for fresh air though.

Bang Bang is spot on. The neighborhood, btw, is right in the middle of Amon and downtown- you might not care for it, but that is a pretty strategic location.

Its going to be interesting to see what happens now, and how this impacts the SL, La Amistad, and the new Castillo. So many San Jose mongers have moved on over the last five years, and I would think that if something did not step up and take its place, this will lead to an increasing decline in mongers in the city.

The reasons the the HDR is at less than 60% occupancy (if it is) are simple.

1. It's a dump.
2. Chica fees
3. It's a dump.

Hotels have to be renovated. (ETA: the SL has been).

Haha, I'm known by BB as an evil HDR supporter, so I'll debate you on this for 2 reasons. 1. it isn't a dump. Even though it's old fashioned and the rooms look like Howard Johnson or a Motel 6, it's always super clean, maid service is excellent, the rooms are big. :)

Very important to me, the towels are big, thick and nice, I always hit the maid up for several extra per day.The bathrooms are big and clean. I always get a window room, third floor or higher, they have well vacuumed rugs and big beautiful insulated curtains, you can shut them and sleep in late.

I always laugh when some guys complain about chica fees. it's mostly "frugal" CRT members, I have met dozens of guys at HDR who never heard of CRT and come year after year and have never said anything about it. :?

The guys that stay at cheap hotels like Morazan have a point, but most guys who I see complain usually stay at pricey places like SL or Amistad where rooms are in the $90 and up range, more often than not, over $100 a night. Plus if you stay somewhere else and take a cab to and back from HDR with your pick for the night, there's almost your chica fee plus the aggravation, then many want taxi money to return to HDR.

HDR is charging me $65 a night, chica fee $11. When I vacation there I usually get an mp visit and 1 chica fee visit in my room occasionally 2, so even if I get 2, it still doesn't approach the pricier places in price. I like the fact that they seize their identification and have their real names, etc., on record and bad behavior can get them banned. :x I've never had any problem from any girl while visiting in my room.

If you're a super stud and getting 4 or more girls in your room per day, hats off to ya, you have a legitimate complaint, but the average guy gets one, maybe 2 a day.

I admit, if I was on vaca and a classy hotel with fabulous rooms is what's important to me, the Presidente is tops, Dunn a close second, SL rooms in the back are nice, the atmosphere is tops, but their front rooms around the bar are vile and that's going easy on them, La Amistad is classy as well, I've heard good things about Zona, but again, look to pay around $100 a night.

What I like when on vaca is to run around all day long and settle in at night, no walking the mean streets of San Jose at night, no fighting taxi's, etc. Hang around and watch the show, nothing to your liking? Watch a little TV in your room, come back down, new arrivals available for your perusement. Pick a cutie and hit the elevator, 15 minutes after talking to her and getting turned on, she's nekked in your shower blowing you... :D

Another benefit being in the belly of the beast is the constant parade of hotties, spot one you like but running off to do something? Make some small talk and arrange to see her later or get her number, plus it's fun to just hang around and watch the constant show.

Stumble down in the morning for coffee? Sometimes there's cuties as early as 6 am, they don't ask for cien as a rule, I've had super cuties, young and damn near perfect for $50 on the morning shift, girls who could legitimately compete in the $80 to cien range if they were working nights. Get some morning wood resolved, sleep in, head down later for a late breakfast....

I'm also going to challenge the 60% occupancy issue. I used to be in real estate, and sometimes commercial projects, it's damn near impossible for any hotel to survive on 60% occupancy, especially 2 years, I suspect this is another unverifiable myth. Plus if they're losing big at 60%, where's the renovation money coming from?

Every time I've stayed there it seems jam packed, more than once I've had an opportunity to shoot down on a whim for a quick weekend, more than once if I call with a short notice they told me they were filled up so I either stayed elsewhere or waited another week or so... :| I'm willing to bet they are already sold out for Halloween week.

Legitimate drawbacks? Being in a loud, thug hood, even though the locals are no threat, their constant badgerings are annoying. Rooms on second floor and rooms with no windows can be loud and claustrophobic, get third floor or higher with windows. Even the good rooms can be noisy at night, I've been woken up in the middle of the night by taxi activity, gunshots, etc. Their restaurant and room service is excellent but quite pricey, all you can eat breakfast...$16! I mean it's great, but yowza!

Also, the atmosphere is always ratched up high tension, the atmosphere at places like Dunn, La Amistad, SL are calmer, quieter, classier, SL has these cool sitting areas, the neighborhoods for SL and Amistad are pretty and subdued and you can walk around and not get hassled, plus you do get classier more modern rooms, but then again, you pay for it... :x

So there's the legitimate pros and cons as far as I sees it, I'm still betting she'll be essentially the same years from now and you won't be staying there elbowing for room with moms n dads n K*ds n the ladies of the historic society and nature lover tourists...

HDR is charging me $65 a night, chica fee $11.

I stay at the Castillo these days and do the all-inclusive. I think its less expensive (even for a king room with terrace) and I will explain.

Let's assume a queen room at the Castillo so as to compare to a $65 + plus a single pull chica fee ($11) - $76 - standard room at the HDR. $89. Add the all-inclusive. $99. $23 difference.

First, food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are going to add to your $76. If I remember correctly, the HDR does not even provide coffee in the cost of the room. And has no restaurant in the hotel (the Del Mar, of course, across the street). So you have to either order room service or walk for chow.

The Castillo not only has a really good included breakfast, but the all-inclusive lunch and dinner menu is excellent easily surpassing the Del Mar.

Lunch and dinner at the Castillo is at least a $30 or $40 value. Now the room price is easily equivalent to the HDR.

Of course, you can go eat at a soda down the block from the HDR for $8 - $10 a meal. But it's still getting the prices in range unless you eat just once a day. Or fast.

Next, booze (or soda or coffee or milk or milk or bottled water for the non-drinkers). All-inclusive cervaza or whatever adds nada to the cost of your room at the Castillo. I easily drink 4-8 drinks a day. At the HDR? Let's just assume 8 beers at 1200 colones each (without tip and I forget how much an Imperial is at the BM) - $16 mas o menos? And that coffee. And bottled water. Starts to add up.

Now, the back and forth bit. Yes, taxis cost. It should cost 658 colones (mas o menos) from the HDR to the Castillo if you have an honest cab or don't give in to the ladrone taxistas. That's $1.16 (today). So I can take 9 taxi trips between the Castillo and the HDR for the price of a single HDR chica fee (I usually walk down and taxi back).

Where the two are even is in drinks for the chicas and if you feed her.

Overall I think that the all-inclusive Castillo (or La Amistad) is more value for money, even at the one pull level. Food and booze is essentially free. Unless you are a breatharian and drinking tap water at the HDR, you are spending money over and above your $65 + $11 one pull chica fee.

Lyrics

Well, baby used to stay out all night long
She made me cry, she done me wrong
She hurt my eyes open, that's no lie
Tables turn and now her turn to cry
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now
Well, she used to run around with every man in town
She spent all my money, playing her high class game
She put me out, it was a pity how I cried
Tables turn and now her turn to cry
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now
Well, I used to wake in the morning, get my breakfast in bed
When I'd gotten worried she'd ease my aching head
But now she's here and there, with every man in town
Still trying to take me for that same old clown
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now
Because I used to love her, but it's all over now

Good point, MM3.

Since I haven't been down since 2015 and I knew nothing about the Castillo, I could only base it on the pricier places that I was aware of but that sounds like a good deal, I heard it's upgraded and classy, I don't even know where it is and of course nobody in this country can put a website together worth a cr*p, I couldn't look it up, but I saw some pics on tripadvisor and it looks really nice.

So it just boils down to do you want to be in the center of the action and have zero hassle picking up chicas in the evening, more constant viewing and possible opportunities in the morning and afternoon right in front of your face for the pickins or a classier hotel with a better deal in a more relaxed atmosphere, some nice benefits and conveniences, but you have a harder time galavanting about in search of sweetness n bliss, day and night, and either have to have a fave pre arranged come by in the evening or you have to go out n about at night to find your prey and bring it home.

For me the drinks are no benefit since I rarely drink and I love finding and eating at the inexpensive Tico sodas, so having the elegant American style meals doesn't appeal to me, and for some crazed unexplainable reason, instead of class and grace and elegance, I like a raucous wild atmosphere with barely dressed hotties parading at all times...plus I'm lazy at night, I usually have a very active day, walking exercising, checking out the MP's, so I end up walking several miles every day, so I don't feel like going out at night, but I can see based on what brother MM3 said where that place has an appeal. 8)

What's over?
If HDR closes or stops allowing chicas to work, the number of chicas at indy places (SL, Taormina) and probably mp's will increase (probably by a lot). Unless the displaced chicas develop some kind of useful skills (they still wouldn't want to actually work), get on the non-existant welfare, or win the lottery, they will need money to feed themselves and their K*ds.
SL will be hopping.
