Here's a quick Spirit fact...if you purchase your ticket at the counter you can save some cash. Typically around $38. It's in the fine print. You save paying the Passenger Usage Fee. For example if you were to fly out of Ft Lauderdale to SJO May 26 -29 the cost would be $272.23 if you purchased it online. If you went to the airport the price would be $234.25.
A similar trip out of Baltimore (BWI) May 27th - May 31st is running $286.83 online or $248.85 if purchased at the airport.

I fly out of Baltimore and take Spirit to SJO a couple times a year. I'll be in San Jose the first week of May. RT on Spirit was $276.85. I purchase my tickets at the airport.

Southwest out of BWI to SJO typically run about $300 RT.

Do not want to upset the Orange Cart again.

But Spirit Air - 2 to 3 times a year has a 90% off sale. (or 90% off of retail?)

You need to simply sign up for their emails.

The deal usually last ONLY 1 or 2 days, and bam it is gone.

See this link for the thread that put me in the doghouse.

Most of my trips now are to Medellin. I fly Copa because Spirit left me stranded overnight in FLL at the end of 2015. Last week, the price on Copa between MCO and MDE went up about $100 to $467. I check prices a few times a day when I am ready to make plans. This morning, just after midnight, the price dropped to $265. I jumped on that since Copa allows you to reserve a flight for 48 hours without paying anything. They still have that fare on their website, but it will probably be gone soon.

I have earned Silver status with Copa, which makes me eligible for free upgrades to business class. Only one flight in my last three trips have I not been upgraded. That was from MDE to Panama, which is only an hour flight. Copa is my first choice now, even if I have to pay more sometimes. Almost all their flights go through Panama, so they are not a good option between MCO and SJO, since JetBlue has direct flights.

Spirit is the worst airline that operates out of MCO. I usually take the Jetblue flight when traveling to Costa Rica and would book Copa if I went to Medellin for sure.

Here's a way around that. Flexible schedule. I just purchased a ticket for slightly over $500. Using a combination of e-cash and Delta Skymiles. This ticket would have cost $1027.00 if purchased outright. Use Skymiles if you have them to offset the costs.

If you're close to the amount required, you can purchase small amounts of miles. I purchased 4000 for 150.00 + taxes. The ticket required 25,000 and 360.00. Otherwise, I would not be going. That's the cheapest I EVER purchased a ticket for. Heading to Costa Rica. The lowest before was 534.00. That was in 2010. Delta too.

If I had other options, I'd go that route too. NC claims to be a free enterprise state, but wouldn't let Tesla motors do business here; however, they're operating here now.

NC has some of the DUMBEST laws in the country. We really do, and the courts move so damn slow here. It's unbelievable. In NC you have to be separated ONE YEAR before a court will even consider a divorce application, and you need proof. I.E. A lease agreement. NC is whack.

Not sure what this has to do with ticket prices.

I'm saying if I had other options, I would go that route, but because NC limits exposure to business opportunities, I'm forced to pay a different fare. However, it is the lowest fare I paid.

And I hear ya hotdog....lol

NC doesn't limit what airlines fly out of NC. Airlines decide that. If Spirit thought they could make money flying out of CLT or RDU they would.

Or are you saying that because the automobile dealers association convinced the General Assembly to require Tesla to follow the same rules as NC stocking automobile dealers that airline fares are higher?

It's a tight knit community, but good luck with your sojourn over the internet. They're real fun MM3. I did mine too.

It seems every year during the summer months the price goes up just like it does in December.

That's the old way of doing business. Now, it's just expensive regardless of when you leave. There are ways around it. Skymiles for now if you have 'um and being flexible with your Skymiles and travel dates.
