Never met him, but he was a character. At the 2006 or 2007 CRT anniversary party, he got up on stage and started Moonwalking like Michael Jackson.

RIP

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were:
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.

What an eloquent, heartfelt tribute, El Ciego, to one of our brothers

I remember CIRCUS staying at the Presidente where we all would stay in he early 2000's. He walked back with me and my chica from the Key Largo one night. He had a clown suit that he would always wear. He and and Don Gordo used to hang together.

I learned of the sad news today while sitting in the Del Rey with other CRT members. I met Circus shortly after CRT first started, at the Halloween roll call in 2003. Circus you will be missed. RIP.

Good bye my friend. Circus was one of the first people I met 15 years ago on the original CRS. He was a guy who lit up a room with his sarcastic brand of humor. My fondest memories include his clown suit....The Cardboard Inn.....his utter distain of restaurants that didnt serve REAL MILK....blackbean soup with an egg in it. I will leave these and other experiences to others who were lucky enough to have been in his company.

RIP amigo. A true patriot with a tremendous spirit for life. And as Orange mentioned.... watching him do Michael Jackson's "moonwalk" at the ''06 CRT Anniversary party? That was vintage Circus!

May you rest in peace my friend.....

I had not checked in on this board for quite a while. I am very sad to see this news...and it explains why a recent call to him went unanswered.

Circus and I had many experiences together and colorful dialogues. His "persona" of the sad clown covered up the depth of life experience and intellect he carried internally. He did not suffer fools politely, but he was a very charitable guy to friends or women in need. He respected women, even the sex workers so many of us have known. I never knew him to have a sharp or demeaning word for any woman...even Lucy the oldest worker in the Delrey back in the day was his "friend".

Because of Nam and other traumatic experiences, he chose to live a very private life...but if you were his friend, he was always consistent.

Thanks Ciego for letting us know this and the eloquent obit. I will always have a special place in my memory for "Circus Bill" who I last saw in Jacksonville about 18 months ago.

My first contact with Circus was through his posts back in the early days of CRT. It took about a year before I had the pleasure of meeting him and enjoying his wit. I remember when he took Ciego's cane and had Ciego help him across the street.
Reading the post from all the old members brought many memories of shared food, tequila and tall tails along with those already passed.
RIP Circus!

Bill was a Man's man, someone you could trust to have your back. His life was a full one from the hell of war, to the studies of the Arts and Humanities, the doldrums of everyday life to travel, adventure and discoveries. Towards the end, his Crown was Contentment, one seldom worn by any King.

Everyone loved Bill, grown men, innocent youth and even the most jaded Little Darlings. Laughter and smiles were his companions. His wit, stunts and performances were both legion and legendary....surpassed perhaps only by his modesty and true nature of a gentleman.

While quick with a quip or tale, trying to get any stories of his personal life was as though trying to fill ones glass from a suspect faucet, drip by drip, a sputter or two....he played those cards close to his vest.

From what those of us have gleaned, I believe he came from modest if not, indeed, spartan beginnings and yet accomplished a life with experiences literally from high atop the hightop to the environs of desperate men.....in fact, he enjoyed the company of desperate men in that they had more interesting tales to tell.

It is said that when one is born, the 3 Sisters Fate measure the cloth for the width and length of our mortal lives....if so, Bill's tapestry was one to be remembered, a man for all seasons.

I shall miss Brother Bill and remember him fondly.....may Providence Bless him and all his Brothers and friends.
