If you are afraid of a high cab fare, use the public bus from the airport to downtown and cab it from there or use a fixed price service like inter bus.

If you are heading to the airport from the Gulch no problem. If you are coming back from Jaco the driver should know to take the Cuidad Colon exit and bypass that bridge heading thru Escazu and into the downtown area but there are I think 3 toll boths along that way. Going thru Heredia and Santo Domingo is a long route and usually tied up with local traffic and takes about 50 minutes on average for me to get from my house close to the airport, to the Gulch on a normal day.

Quick Question.. I am planning on going to Jaco on my next trip during the bridge closure, if I were to go to Jaco after I land at SJO, and then go from Jaco to SJ, is it possible to avoid the traffic situation..

Can someone answer the question about driving from SJO to Jaco & Jaco to SJO? Will the closure affect that route?

If you take Rt. 27, other than having heavier than usual traffic, no it won't. However from San Jose to coyol could be a nightmare.

If I was headed to Jaco I would leave as early as possible like around 4:00 am and avoid the traffic. Coming back I would leave about 8:30-9:00pm to let the traffic thin out. You will still have slow moving vehicles up the hills but you won't have 100 plus cars behind them so the driver can pass easier. I normally try to be out of downtown by 3:30am to have as little traffic as possible.

We would be leaving from the airport & returning from Jaco to the airport Monday.

No... assuming you meant you are NOT heading into San Jose metro, just landing at SJO and heading straight to Jaco and back. No need to get on the affected route.

Thanks MH!!

I came in on sunday around noon, I got a rental and drove around 1 to San Jose. Very little delay, maybe 5 minutes, only 1 lane each way. But it was Sunday, so maybe that's why. Going TO the airport was a different story. Looked bad.

Traffic, Construction & Closures Crowd Sourcing

The bridge isn't closed all the time. Upthread there is a link to an article.

Supposedly real time WAZE map

Real time Google map route SJO to La Amistad

This internet thing is awesome. I know its a fad - but I just typed "bridge closure san jose cr" into that google search thingy and all sorts of info popped up.

I left the gultch, at 9:30AM Monday morning for the airport used a taxi. Traffic not too bad, arrived at the airport by 11:20AM. No rain, some traffic at the bridge. It was ok, but give youself pelnty of time.
