OMG, you guys have had problems entering Canada! I thought it was just me! Canada is the only country that has tried to deny me entry. Last year, when I arrived at Pearson, the cunt at immigration asked how long I was staying in Canada. I told her 2 days. She then asked if I was there for business. When I replied no, she question me why I was only staying 2 days. I explained to her that I was on my way to Germany and booked a long layover so I could see Niagara Falls and go to the Blue Jays game. She then scolded me for using the term layover. She said that it was a stopover not a layover and went on to say that she could not let me into the country because I just lied to a government official and quoted some Canadian law. At first, I thought she was phucking with me, but she was serious. She asked to see my itinerary. I tried to show her it on my phone, but she refused to look at it and demanded a paper copy. Thank God that I had it in my bag! Although, it still wasn't good enough for her, she kept dwelling on the issue of me using the term layover. She then asked for my hotel reservation. I showed it to her plus my car reservation and Blue Jays tickets. She then had a change of heart and let me in the country. This was my first and after this experience, probably my last time that I'll go to Canada. I don't care how cheap a flight might be, I'll never book a flight with a layover or stopover in Canada again.

Yeah... similar over-reaction I got when I mentioned "I am an American who lives in Colombia." My guy got all bent out of shape and snapped "Yes, I can see that!" Go figure... his reaction just made no sense. Maybe it's just a technique they use to rattle people's cages.

I too have had inexplicable trouble entering Canada. Each time I go, I get hassled for no good reason.

The first time was a business trip. My employer equipped me with all of the proper documents, including a document signed by the Canadian government that I was representing my employer and that I had permission to work in Canada for a specified time period.

A colleague was with me. They let my colleague through without so much as a glance. He was American but had a last name that was clearly of French descent. I went in right behind him and and they held me up for about two hours, for nothing. My colleague had to wait for me because the rental car was in my name.

The second time was a vacation. Again the border officials held me up, asking all sorts of silly and obviously stupid questions. I never figured out why. I have not returned to Canada and probably never will return.

Try going to Canada hunting and taking a gun with you. They hated me and made me jump thru hoops.

What happens if you decline providing your password to login to your tablet/notebook, more specifically in the US?
CBP has to allow you entry back to your home country, but haven't heard many stories of people who have not allowed their computers to be searched.

I believe they will confiscate the device, and will return it to you eventually when they are done cracking it.

Literally. In other words, if you don't consent to a search and make them do the work, I'd guess there's a good chance that the device will be in worse condition when they return it to you than when they took it from you.

"We have ways of making you talk."
When Canadian Border Services "secondaried" me, I was thinking about invoking my rights as an American, but then quickly realized I was in Canada.

Now that's funny. No problem if you are taking a gun for hunting and you have your hunting license, etc... but otherwise why would someone try to cross any border with a gun?
