Best post that you've ever done, BB, IMHO. Sorry to see CD go to la carcel, but as you say, he knew the rules.

Below the radar is the way to go for those partaking in the hobby... no matter where you are. Prostitution is tolerated all over the world (except in the US  ), but when foreign sex tourists begin promoting a place as a prime mongering destination, the powers to be will step on them. The scary thing is that once arrests like this begin, it may happen to anyone visiting a country at the whim of some official. For the sake of the mongering community in Costa Rica... let's hope this case is the exception and not the rule.

IMO, the guys who actively and methodically promote sex tourism may be in it for financial gain, however, I believe the true underlying reason is feeding one's ego.

+100. Low profile is the way to go.

It's not about writing a trip report telling everybody how great MP X is. It's about selling guides and starting websites (on how to find hookers and places) in CR. When you start making money off of the hobby, that changes things. When you have followers, that changes things.

I just don't get why some guys can't go and enjoy themselves, and let it end there. Why they need to post pics of themselves and their conquests, and publicize everything they do. Then they get the genius idea that they can start making money off their wisdom. Sometimes it seems they do this to give the authorities a big FU.

+1000!!!!
And, yes it is him!!

Also it is very much about a low life scumbag (NO, I DO NOT LIKE THE GUY and I have called him much worse to his face) who would/will do anything to get a picture of himself with a working girl to put on the "net"; even to outright lying to supposedly friends and fellow (Gringo) mongers.
To explain my feelings toward this lowlife: Several years ago I had a favorita in a small MP where there were only 4 chicas working-she and 3 others who were also good friends on mine. One of the other 3 was actually married and the other 2 had live-in boyfriends (which in CR is akin to being married). He was in this MP one day with me and was insisting on a picture. All 4 chicas were saying "NO". He kept promising them and me that the picture would NEVER be made public (Man was I gullible). He finally convinced me to talk the 4 chicas into letting him have a picture. He even sent me an email the next day with a copy and stating again "As agreed, for mine and your eyes only- never to be published"!! The very next week this lowlife was using the picture at the top of his website main page!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's bad enough that he would lie to the chicas but to lie to a fellow monger and supposed "friend"-IN MY BOOK THAT IS AN ABSOLUTE NO - NO!!!! And for the rest of the story: NO, the husband and boyfriends did not know what their chicas were doing!! The married chica's marriage ended in divorce and the other two lost their boyfriends (YES, JUST AS I HAVE SAID MANY, MANY TIMES ON HERE (BUT MANY SEEM TO JUST NOT BELIEVE IT) "TICOS DO READ CRT" and other sites on the internet-including his!!! Also, I do not know if this was the reason he quit coming here for a few years (and quit posting on CRT) but 2 of the 3 chicas involved in this put a 'hit' out on his sorry ass!!! And, by the way, if anyone wants to question the validity of this story, I still have the email he sent me saying he would never post the picture and a copy of his website where he used the picture.

As for the laws here , yes the law plainly states that "to profit financially in any way (pimping, promoting for profit, or publicly advertising the availability of chicas, etc.) from prostitution in CR is against the law". This is the reason that back when I did walking tours I NEVER charged a fee and when guys insisted on giving me money, I gave all such money to the orphanage next door to where I lived. Yes what he has been doing for years is against the law.

And there is a very powerful group of wealthy Ticos who want ALL sex tourism stopped at any cost!! And before any one starts commenting on how that would severely hurt the economy here- yes, tourism is the largest single industry in CR; yes it would hurt a few hundred chicas (those that work only in the Gringo places) and the employees of those places and their families. BUT sex tourism accounts for a whopping 1.5- 2% of the total tourist dollar!! Do you really think that the Ticos with money and power are really that worried about that or the chicas involved?? NO!! Hell, one of the members of the group fighting for its end is the owner of a business that profits hugely from us mongers (more than the !.2-2%). OH, and they seem to have NO interest in trying to stop ALL prostitution. And the over-all $$$ spent by locals (Ticos) with prostitutes is much, much more than what the tourists spend!! There are over 100 Tico MPs with an average of almost 10 chicas each, over 100 bars with convenient rooms very close by and chicas hanging out in the bar, many night clubs, and at any given time over 200 independent chicas who deal primarily with the Ticos. Hell there are nearly 100 short time hotels just in the central valley that exist solely for giving the Ticos a place to take their chica (mostly prostitutes) for a little short time "fun"!!

Even with not charging nor profiting from the walks I did for several years, they still tried to catch me on a walk with a bunch of guys back in July '08'. This was when they closed every MP in San Jose in one day. Luckily, I had a "friend" who knew in advance about the raids and their plans to arrest me. The morning of the raids I left the country for a month till things cooled down. And when I returned I no longer did the tours. The tours had really gotten out of hand anyway--they started by me inviting a friend or two to join me on a walk to visit a few of the places maybe once or twice a week, and had progressed to 10-15 guys and 4-5 times a week!!

I hate to see any Gringo get in trouble with the law here in CR. BUT in this case, he knew the laws and knew he was violating them!! Kind of hard for me to feel sorry for him!!!!!!

As 911driver said "low key is the way to go"!!!!

Also, I have no problem with guys posting pictures on here (or anywhere on the internet) when the chica(s) has given him permission, but to do so without permission is just plain WRONG, SHITTY, LOWLIFE, AND IN SOME CASES AND PLACES, CRIMINAL!!

Very well said Orange and BB

Guys I know typically avoided the guy whenever they crossed path at the same time in CR.. Trouble written all over guy like that..

Have heard rumors of the Lying scumbag stories before, never heard confirmation until now. :|

All one can say about a guy like that is, enjoy jail in CR..

Can anyone tell me the difference between

Before... "o"

and

After... "O"

A bit severe, don't you think. I contributed to the surgery fund when Pops had his accident, didn't expect a thank you, never got one, but that's OK. It is all Karma. I would contribute to get CD out of the hell of jail in CR if he doesn't have funds. No one deserves to rot in prison in CR for what he did.

The quality of mercy is not strained. Since you also like your Shakespeare, 911 driver, as I do.

Ok 911, I bow to you. "I have spent many times in bawdy houses" -- Sir Falstaff (Henry the Fifth). Let's get back to the bawdy houses, AKA HDR and SL. :D

Anybody who likes Shakespeare and knows what iambic pentameter is deserves at least five ales on me. Let me know when you are going to be in SJO. (OK, maybe Imperials)

Jawanker,
I am all in, kudos to you for not being a phallic symbol :D
Tired with all these for restful death I cry,
As to behold desert a beggar born,
And needy nothing trimmed in jollity,
And purest faith unhappily forsworn,
And gilded honour shamefully misplaced,
And maiden virtue rudely strumpeted,
And right perfection wrongfully disgraced,
And strength by limping sway disabled
And art made tongue-tied by authority,
And folly (doctor-like) controlling skill,
And simple truth miscalled simplicity,
And captive good attending captain ill.
Tired with all these, from these would I be gone,
Save that to die, I leave my love alone.

Regards, 911 Driver
