Actually they are smart and you are the asshole for wanting to smoke in public. They are not only protecting their business but they are protecting the health of their guests, the majority being non-smokers.

This is the kind of stuff that Admin should be swift about. A personal attack should never be tolerated.

When a person refers to someone doing their job as an asshole why do you get upset when someone calls them an asshole?

Little bit different when one is making social commentary about generic persons (smoking police) than a direct insult to a specific CRT member.

Scuba1 is not an asshole. He is a frequent contributor who makes amusing comment which are not abusive or ignorant. I wouldn't normally comment on trash talk, BUT I CAN'T STAY SILENT IN SUPPORTING SCUBA'S POSTS. I know him personally and he is a fine man and CRT brother.

No one is questioning or doubting he is a fine man and a CRT brother. Where is that a license to refer to a person doing his job in a derogatory manner?

You can disagree with the smoking ban and express your displeasure but to insult the messenger goes out of bounds on what is supposedly a "Gentleman's Board".

I highly doubt that smoking a Stogie on the balcony is going to harm their other guest health.

TEHO, but the last thing I want after taking a nice, clean, refreshing swim in the clear waters of Jaco, is to be within 20 feet of cigar smoke.

Jeez, I take a day to go diving and look at how the pot got stirred up   :P

Hello - that was my point - not talking about an enclosed space, but an open balcony - thank you, 'dude :) PS A single 747 going from NYC to LAX puts more pollution into the atmosphere than all the cigars smoked in the USA in a year - just as a frame of reference. Also, I was referring to hotel management vs the employee(s) having to carry out a policy I think is way over the top

ID - I like you, and have been a fan of your posts and knowledge for years - I think you are smart, articulate and <often  > correct in your posting and conclusions - in fact during the thread when the smoking ban was first instituted, you pointed out that I was on the "wrong side of history" and upon reflecion, I tend to agree with you - but we are talking an open balcony - surely some accomodation - such as allowing smoking in non enclosed spaces - like a balcony  - is a way to accomodate the needs of both - regardless, my comments about you stand, and perhaps on this issue we will just have to respectfull disagree - does not mean we are not friends :)

Randy - when you start to make posts that actually help others, vs just taking "one line" shots at everyone, we can talk - until then, keep up the posts which put you close to being a troll.

Bruce - thank you - I know you don't normally get into the nonsense on CRT and your comments are very much appreciated - you are the best :) :) :)

Scuba my posts in this thread had nothing to do with the pros and cons of the smoking ban in Costa Rica. That issue has been debated and the decision made. Agree with it disagree with it but express your feelings about the lawmakers who decided the issue not with the business owner and employees charged with enforcing the ban or incurring large fines.

My comments were simply pointing out that at least one member feels it is alright to use a derogatory term to describe a person who is not a member but a heinous offense to us the same term about a member.I think that is just a bit hypocritical.

I never said that calling anyone an asshole was acceptable. That is my point. It is unacceptable by anyone on a Gentleman's Board to call another any derogatory name whether they be referring to another member, a "generic" person or any other category in which you choose to place them.

Well while things get a bit heated here...I wanted to stop by and invite you to our exclusive, full bar, big screen TVs, comfortable couched cigar lounge.

feel free to smoke, drink and watch your favorite game.

I will also get you the lowest prices on cigars as well as your CRT discount.

I also know a nice place to stay in Jaco if you are looking to have a cigar and enjoy all the other "benefits" of Jaco.

nice to meet you!

BR
