"YOU DON'T NEED AN ATTORNEY" for any of this.
PM me if you want more info.
Witling, you are absolutely right that you do not NEED a lawyer. I did hire one for several reasons. I wanted to make sure this process was handled by an expert and although it came at a considerable cost I was very relieved having professionals handling this matter.
I don't know what state you reside in but in Florida, there is a tremendous amount of immigrants and each document regarding their visa is extremely scruitinized. Once she has come to the states and you have married her, you have to immediately file for a change of status which is esentially applying for a green card. In my case it took a long time to get that change of status and during that time she was considered illegal. I went to the INS building and although it is a public building, they would not let me in without a lawyer. I called my lawyer and she took care of it and got me an answer.
Long story short-Having a lawyer helped expedite the situation as well as keep me calm when things were not going right.
It is your decision whether you choose the attorney or not. As far as the cost goes, YES it will be more expensive but if the chica you want to bring over is important to you, the cost is trivial.
I will say that aside from the cost of the visa and attorney (if you get one) you have the emotional cost invested too.
My advice is make sure this is the chica you want to be with. After the hoops you have to jump through to go through this process, you will not want to do it again for just anybody.
Pura Vida and Good Luck to those who are considering this option.
