I've generally been very happy with my kindle here in CR. However, there still are quite a few authors that I enjoy who are still not available on kindle and certain types of books are better in the print versions (e.g., history books containing maps and/or photographs, neither of which show up well on kindle).

7th Street Books is a really good independent bookstore and, IMO, should be supported whenever possible so that English language readers don't lose a valuable asset in San José. I've found that it is cheaper (although a bit slower) to order print versions of books through them than doing it through Amazon.

Plus Yorleny is a real sweetheart. :D

I can understand the boss being lazy, but why he doesn't hire people with a smidgen of energy is baffling. I don't think they have actually moved a book from the counter (piled to the rafters) to a shelf since they moved into this location. Costa Rican hustle and work ethic displayed at its finest.

LOL, Bilko, have you've seen the people that work there, they are all part-timers and drifters that the guy hires for cheap.
Glad the place isnt closed though as I love being able to trade my books there once I'm done with them.

I still havent caught up to the whole electronic book thing as I just love to handle my paperback as I sit on the pot.

Bet to that. I make marginal notes, turn down pages, the whole "book abuse" schmear--can't do that with an e-book.

With a Kindle you can sit on the pot and read. You can make notes, highlite and do just about every "book abuse" that excites you  except turn down the page.

I do not like reading from a computer and my biggest concern getting a Kindle is that it would be similar to that. It is not. It is much more like reading from a paperback book.

Yeah I get all that but don't want Gutenberg to fetch me a slap later on the other side.

In a way you can still turn down the page. The Kindle automatically remembers the last page you were on, or you can add multiple bookmarks if you wanted to turn down several pages for reference later.
