It depends on the iPhone:

The iPhone 3g and 3gs both use the sim cards which can be purchased at the ICE booth at the airport. However, the iPhone 4 uses a micro sim. You would indeed need to cut the sim card from ICE to fit into the iPhone 4. A tool can be purchased online to accomplish the task.

Does anyone know if the prepaid SIM cards available also give access to data? If I bring an unlocked iphone 3gs, can I buy the SIM at the airport and use voice, text, Internet and data or do the prepaid SIMS just give you voice & text?

YES!

In fact, if anyone is bringing a 3G "smartish" phone to CR and is going to get prepaid service, I would wholly recommend that they also see if they can get their phone setup for data service also.

It costs nothing extra!

If you do not use the internet then it costs you ZIP!
If you do use the internet the charge is something like $0.000024 per kbyte IIRC. (look it up on the ICE website if you want to doulbe check. )
The data charges come out of your balance just like airtime for a phone call. Nothing tricky about it.

I would not count on ICE being able to setup any and every phone. When I asked the clerk, he checked the model of my phone (SE W995A) in his computer and said "yes." I think that he was looking to see if they had the info about what settings to change in the phone to setup to work on their network.

Give it a shot!

Used MasterPago before to recharge, then after the, "redesign", I couldn't log in nor create a new account. Working via email to try to activate my account. However, I now buy the code/clave at the grocery store at the checkout when I'm here.

Orange,

I suppose you’re the best one to answer this, but if anyone else knows the answer please help me out.

So I went to the MasterPago site. I registered and within 20 minutes was authorized to use their service. It took filling out their form being accepted almost instantly and then finding that my information had to be verified. Took two emails with an English writing women. One of which was the sending a copy of my drivers lisc Seemed very simple and easy. An within 20 minutes was good to go.

But, after making my 1st purchase, what I got seems to only be a calling card. Just, like the ones I buy when I am there. I have the PIN and the Clave. My question is, how do I use or activate the card from the United States? I know when I am in CR I dial 150 and the prompts take me thru the loading process. How is it done if you are in the States?

My reciept also listed a phone number I have no idea what or whos it is?

Help please.

Looks like you selected the wrong option.

Did you select "ICE Prepago Móvil 2500"?

If so, you just bought yourself a virtual recharge CARD. You cannot do anything with that from the states. To use it, you must enter the code while connected to the ICE network. But I'm pretty sure you will be able to do it next time you go to CR. I don't think it will expires before it's used.

To recharge online from the US, you must select "Recarga Automatica (TA)" ("Automatic recharge")

The next screen will ask for your prepaid number and quantity to recharge (you only need to recharge a minimum of 50 colones when not in use-every 30 days, 2500+ colones will last 60 days). And just follow to checkout.

Thanks. That is exactly what I did. I bought a prepaid card. which will now be a gift for some lucky lady.

I was hestiant to select the "Recarga automatica" button has I assumed it would ask for a credit crad and just keep updating against my card indefiantly.

Thanks again.

"Recarga automatica" just means that your account is recharged without having to punch in the code. There's no recurring recharges, you have to do it each month.
