what's your guess on Shakira's age

If you are asking me this, it probably would not be a fair question. She was born in Barranquilla, Colombia in I think 1977 which would make her 33 now. I saw her live on stage in Colombia a few years ago and she is great. She is a perfect example of a Latina that does not look her age.

Actually that is a very broad generalization that is not true of ALL LATINAS, NOT EVEN MOST, out side of Mexico and Central America. Many Colombianas ( Shakria, my ex wife, and many others), Argentinanas, Venezuelans, and Brasilians do NOT look their age. Hell my ex was still passing for early 30s when she was 60 and she had many friends in Bogota in their 40s and 50s that were still very young and hot looking. I have one Colombiana friend working the REY for at least 10 years who guys think is early 30s and she is 46.

Only if she sticks to Spanish. Her english teacher should be tarred, feathered and decertified. I saw her speaking English at the Latin Grammys a few years ago here in Vegas. My ears were in serious pain. Then that she-wolf crap. But to me she does look about her age. She has been spending way too much time in the US and is crashing toward her expiration date like a carton of milk in 110 degree Vegas heat.

We're traveling to SJ in June. Think they'll be done with the raids by then?

Sistah Shakira obviously need more quality time with a gent like Brother MrLV to tighten up her, er, Inglese. My take anyway. OTOH I understand Christine Aguilera spoke no Spanish 'til a few years ago. Go figure.

I am laughing at the fact that this thread went from police raids, to ünderage girls, to Shakira, to Christina Aguilera. :P

To answer your question and TO GET BACK TO THE SUBJECT OF THIS THREAD!!!

Who Knows!!! Raids are a normal occurance the week before and the week of Semana Santa. I do not have any figures to back this up, but it does seem to me that the raids this year have been more and more intense. In the past it has been mostly just going in, checking papers, hauling off any illegal chicas, and closing the place (maybe) for the rest of that day. This year they are breaking down doors, arresting managers, and going thrugh records much more than in past years. As for when they will be done with the raids--with the new president and her apparent views on prostitution and her agenda, only time will tell. It may get worse (quite possible), it may stop (I doubt it)!! Only she knows at this point. If a relatively small group , but a group that controls the power and money in CR, have their way, it will not stop and will get worse.

Sounds like things are pretty much the same everywhere then. I hate politicians!
Yrs ago, I worked as a cocktail waitress in a topless bar. One night they raided the club, guns and clubs drawn, arrested all the bartenders and waitresses ( serving intoxicated people charge.. total crap) .... being sure to get it on the news. It was an election year after all.

I wish people would just live their own lives and stop telling everyone else how they should live theirs.

Thanks for the insight!

Two points for two of the avenues this thread has taken:

1. I thought Shakira’s father was Lebanese and mother was Columbian which means she was probably Spanish and Italian, very common. Even the Spanish discoverer of the America’s was an Italian.

A good argument can be made that there was a strong Arabic and Berber infusion and intermarriage in Spain when the moors occupied the occupied the Iberian Peninsula beginning in the 8th Century through 1492 when the Spanish and Portuguese regained control of their respective nations.

2. Raids have been occurring before Easter week for at least the last four years. I cannot specifically remember if the same is true for the pre-Christmas holidays.

To re-hijack this Thread, here's all you need to know about Shakira and the mighty, mighty good works she's doing:

OF NOTE: She's the 4th richest woman in music.
