It's his money, his choice. As to creating expectations, I think that is over played on this board. The guy who beds them for 200 is creating an expectation as well, as does the guy who pays 100.

I can't say that I would have given the chica $100. But I can say that giving her the money shows basic human decency even if most of the chicas like her will go right back there the next night or next week or the next time she's desperate for money.

Opportunity to change her life? With a $100? If he had given her $100,000, or even $10,000, then you'd be right. The only thing that the $100 maybe changed were her dinner plans.

I have no problem with giving money to charity. I have no problem with the orphanage fund. But I wouldn't compare what happened here to donating to charity.

We are all acutely away of the economic advantage we have over the young ladies in these third world countries...but we didnt cause it, we cant control it, and we cant' cure it.. The money given to the orpanage was for paying for the basic needs of the Ch*ldren... that which would have otherwise been the responsibility of their parents or extended family...it was not intended to be gift ala "Great Expectations" So your analogy is incorrect.

I think some miss the point of the story, based on the story as it reads. The money only removed the immediate need and gained this gentleman some credibility as to sincerety. What he told her is what could "change a life" as it encouraged a different direction. That is assuming that prostitution isn`t the only means of survival for these young women and I`m sure it isn`t. Based on the story, the girl was in a state of high anxiety, teetering on the fence with initiation in view and the guy offered her advice that she seemed to take.

P.S. Of course there is always room for the cynics. Perhaps the girl was only a con. Maybe the gentleman doesn`t really care about others but just gave the $ and the advice to get some nice warm fuzzy feelings for himself. Who knows and we can never know regarding this story or even if it ture at all. But it can be argued that, for many prostitution is soul destroying and leads to a hardened disposition. It`s also likely true that some have come close to entering the industry and pulled back. There are also genuine good deeds that happen out of simple responses to conscience in given circumstances. So, its not all black or white, cynical or optimistic. Reality has much greater diversity.

What was the point of telling that "story" to begin with? To inform everybody that there's a human side to the working girls. I don't think there's one person on this board that didn't know that. Thanks for the newsflash.
