TimBones; Should we ever meet up in Costa Rica or stateside it will be my distinct pleasure to purchase a few rounds of drinks for you and your comrades in arms that may be with you. Try to let everyone on the board know when you will be coming home as I am positive my sentiments are shared by others. May God Bless you and your comrades and keep you safe. Also sent as a PM

The following is from an email I received and thought it fitting:

Quote:
A soldier who served in the military in Irag, and is now stateside in California tells how warm and welcoming the people were to him and his troops everywhere he goes, telling how people shake their hands and thank them for being willing to serve and fight for not only our own freedoms, but that others may have them also. But he also told me about an incident in the grocery store he stopped at yesterday on his way home from the base.

He said that ahead of several people in front of him stood a woman dressed in a burkha. He said when she got to the cashier she loudly remarked about the U.S. flag lapel pin the cashier wore on her smock. The cashier reached up and touched the pin, and said proudly, 'Yes, I always wear it and probably always will.'

The woman in the burkha then asked the cashier when she was going to stop bombing her countrymen, explaining that she was Iraqi.

A gentleman standing behind the soldier stepped forward. Putting his arm around the soldiers shoulders and nodding towards him, he said in a calm and gentle voice to the Iraqi woman:
'Lady, hundreds of thousands of men and women like this young man have fought and died so that YOU could stand here in MY country and accuse a check-out cashier of bombing YOUR countrymen. It is my belief that had you been this outspoken in YOUR own country, we wouldn't need to be there today. But, hey, if you have now learned how to speak out so loudly and clearly, I'll gladly buy you a ticket and pay your way back to Iraq so you can straighten out the mess in YOUR country that you are obviously here in MY country to avoid.

Everyone within hearing distance cheered!

In Iraq she would have been stoned to death or hung. They learn fast when they come over here how to speak their minds……….

Roger that---Thank you to the service men and women who serve--without a complaint

Thank you to the contractors who serve--without a complaint

Thank you to the silent professionals who do what it takes day in and day out-not for themselves-but for thier country--breathing in dust--taking cover from rocket and mortor rounds--taking fire direct and indirect.

There are many men and women who love thier country more than themselves. I salute you--we salute you!

Vacationbound you just, IMHO, showed what has become the biggest problem in the USA. You take a thread that is a tribute to our active duty servicemen and those who have served their country in the past and turn it into a cheap political shot. It seems everything has to be made a political statement rather then just a honest thought.

I do not care if you support the policies of the President or passionately dislike them this thread and indeed this board is not the place to air those feelings.

Show your displeasure in the only place that really counts...THE VOTING BOOTH... and when you are doing that say a prayer and give thanks to the brave men and women who served their country so you could express your opinion in that voting booth.

Irish-- I understand your sentiments

Look man there are people dying over in distant lands every day by evil men's hands. There are young men and women who put thier life on the line to defend our nation and our president.

No offence though Irish--in all other aspects I absolutely agree with you and probably should not have said it, but unfortunately for the USA it is absolutely true.

But I digress you are right Irish--I will refrain and I will hold myself back and not speak truth when it comes to politics as some people really dont want to hear it on this CRT place of excellence. Thank you for accepting my apology

By the way this message was sent with love to CRTers from Iraq!!!!!!!

Vacationbound, this is from a veteran. It is the true essence of our service to give EVERYONE and that include the President of the USA and Commander in Chief the opportunity to love or hate our country. Criticized or approved every action that we take. Live or Leave the country at their will. I disagree that President Obama hates this country but if that is your opinion, so be it. I serve for you to earn that right. But you have taken one of the few good and decent threads and made it a political statement. And that is not cool.

I will ask you to go back and edit your posts; sometimes we all have a brain fart here and there. Shit happens.

Posts edited as I heard one man say If one person tells you, that you are out of line ignore him, if two people tell you out of line take heed, if three people tell you that--then definately seek to understand--not the exact words but something like that.

GOd Bless AMerica!!! THanks guys for taking the time to put an American who loves his country into his place when needed, I can't always be perfect ya know :)

See ya in CR--I hope I can buy you a few rounds Irish---->NOvember

I thought this a good Thread to bring back for itself and to tell you about a show on PBS tomorrow night (9-10:30 ET). It's called "The Way We Get By" and is about the greeters in Bangor Me. who since 2003 have met every plane with troops both going over and coming back. Heroism? Maybe not...but intensely patriotic. Here's a review from the WSJ:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... 45344.html

In the same review is this:
Unfortunately at the same time on MTV is "Return to Duty" about a minor celebrity who's recalled to active duty in Iraq. Counter-programming--don't you love it? NOT!

As much fun as I have when I am out of the country I still am very happy to be home. It is because of all that serve, have served, and the many that have fallen, that I can have my fun. THANK YOU to all VETS.
