I just finished my 12th college course in Spanish. I go to CR twice a year to take conversation/private lessons in the afternoons at a language school near the gulch (Universal de Idiomas). Also, I have a novia mexicana who speaks very little English, so we always speak Spanish. Now I'm rading Angeles Y Demonios by Dan Brown (a recent movie) - it's a great novel in Spanish. I agree with everything said so far, but it's a hell of a lot of work. Now the chicas always ask me if I live in CR. I tell them, no I live in Mexico! (Not true!)

As an aging man, I believe that the intellectual experience is helpful in the fight against dementia and just in the added mental clarity. Plus, I love latinas and speaking to them in the language of love! Asi es la vida!

Since my OP I enrolled in the Spanish 1 class at the local community college. The focus has been on grammar. I must say that my verbal skills are horrible. I know it’s sad but I can only say simple sentences. Keep in mind that I have never taken Spanish, period. Anyway, I have about 3 weeks left and I don't think I am going to continue with the formal classes. I'll probably stick to the CD's I have. The whole thing is a little depressing. Oh well.. I guess that's one more excuse to fly to the motherland, Costa Rica.

I enjoy this site even though I've yet to make it to CR.

In preparation, though, I've started taking a local spanish class in Boston and, in doing homework, I stumbled across "Spanish Dictionary:"

http://www.spanishdict.com

This has a great translation area (both ways) but it also has lessons that appear to be a long the lines of Rosetta Stone - but free.

Looking forward to meeting some of you one of these days.

Minuteman, stop lurking and dive in. The water here is clean and safe. We welcome your presence.
