Not quite correct. Many countries have a reciprosity agreement with the US concerning medical scripts. If you are a regular in the TJ scene, you will note a considerable number of Americans crossing every day with drugs perscribed by a Mexico physician. And never a problem. Not sure if CR is on the list, but would be very suprised if it is not.Given our below fourth world health care system, going out of country for meds is more common everyday.

If you're at the SL and speak to Jimmy (the driver who hangs out there a lot) he'll take you to a pharmacy a couple blocks from SL that he seems to be very well connected with. I had absolutely no problem getting both valium and ambien (stilnox) there.

You don't need Jimmy. Go to the pharmacy by the hospital closest to SL and ask for Juan Carlos (pharmacist, not the taxista) and he will hook you up. Bring an SL business card and get 10% off your purchase.

Correction Orange. While Juan Carlos does indeed own the dispensary, he is an M.D. (internal medicine and emergency medicine), not a pharmacist. The actual pharmacist is his son-in-law, who is married to the other M.D. associated with the farmacia, Marcella.

Regarding reciprocity agreements with the U.S. Sorry, C.R. does not have such an agreement. Without a U.S. prescription, you are NOT permitted to bring prescription meds back from C.R. Period.

Will you get busted for 30 pills or fewer? Probably not, but it does depend upon the substance, as well as other factors. Antibiotics would probably not cause much of a stir, nor would non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs...but a psychotropic? I sure wouldn't risk it.

The absolutely best solution is to bring the original scrip, on an old-fashioned Rx paper. To avoid excessive scrutiny, the Rx should show the name, address and DEA license number of the issuing physician. Yes, your family doc will probably question you about your desire for Valium, but most will be open-minded; after all, Valium is prescribed to hundreds of thousands of people in the U.S. every year.

Please, don't risk getting caught up in some legal bullsh*t at U.S. B.I.C.E. :!:

A CR prescription is as worth as much as a square of Charmin extra soft. You must have a prescription from a FDA (& DEA I believe)licensed doctor.

There is no such thing as an FDA licensed doctor, as the FDA dosent license doctors. Writing prescriptions for controlled substances, like valium, requires the doctor to have a DEA controlled substances registration number.

Also, it is worth noting that it would be very foolish to try to bring back any amount of controlled substances into the US without a US prescription, whether legal or 'grey area' or not. If found, at best you will find yourself on a very special list and will be the subject of countless harassment at the border for the forseeable future.
