There is a "local" grocery store over by Pantera Rosa whose name now escapes me. It is also owned by Wal-Mart just as Mas X Menos and AM are.....the difference is there is not as much of a selection brand wise BUT the prices are way lower.

Example: Single plastic bottle of COKE at Mas X Menos is almost 600c. It's a little over 1/2 that at this store.

Again, same items (as in vegetable, meat, canned goods, liquor, blah, blah, blah)....just not a gazillion brands of each. PENA or something akin to that.....drawing a blank....but I knows where it bees!

Store name Pali. They are located in almost every town in Costa Rica and are the store of choice for Ticos manly because the competition is the local pulperias.

While they are priced lower then their brothers Hypermas and Mas x Menos the difference is not that great. The example of the price of a bottle of coke was most likely a special being featured at the Pali store that week. Weeks that Hypermas and Mas x Menos have certain items on sale they will be lower then the price for the same item in a Pali store.

For someone on vacation hardly worth the effort to spend the time to travel to a store off the beaten path with a limited selection to save a few cents. Definitely not the place to shop for liquor as the selection is extremely limited and mostly made up of low priced rot gut.

Ah! You mean the good stuff! Bring on the Sterno!

However, thanks for the low down, ID...yup....that's the store and your intel overwhelmingly has me convinced to shop Mas X Menos or Auto Mercado (actually, the AM "in the gulch" seems somewhat "up scale" compared to the Mas X Menos in their "deli selection" and pre-prepared foods.

It was a local at one of the hotels who suggested I begin to use Pali. I'm glad I haven't had time to do that thanks to your data....still....I may stop in and "do it" just to see for myself.......and pick up the rot gut.....the stuff for REAL men. No B-12 or Test. injections for me....bring on the rot gut... :P
