How much does CR SUCK?
CR SUCKS MAJOR ASS- Rarely a BBBJ, overpriced chicas with lousy attitudes & service, better off going someplace else that puts CR to shame even if it costs more. 8%  8%  [ 8 ]
CR SUCKS- but is convenient, affordable and worth putting up with the SUCKness factor. 3%  3%  [ 3 ]
CR SUCKS OCCASIONALLY- and is not what it used to be but still can be fun for the money. 20%  20%  [ 20 ]
CR RARELY SUCKS- there can be moments like anyplace else but for the most part it's still fun and meets my expectations 26%  26%  [ 26 ]
CR DOESN'T SUCK- Are you crazy? CR rocks and is still a blast, the negative reports must be pessimists that look for the worst and probably wouldn't be happy anyplace. 43%  43%  [ 43 ]

Like I've said in MANY posts... CR is PERFECT for what it is. A close, inexpensive, and phukfilled place to go visit on short trips.

I love CR. I would live there if I could.

I'm probably not going to be going there as often as I have been going lately, and will be exploring new venues, and revisiting old ones.

My next trip is probably Rio for 2 weeks, although I might hit TJ's for a night or two over the next month or so.

Pattaya is far away, although I might see if I can hook up with a well known MDE traveller and go there sometime this year...

QBF stated my normal response. It has its place. If you always go on 10 day or 2 week trips and your focus is mongering then CR is a bad choice. I would go to Thailand or the PI.

But for last minute 3,4or 5 day trips :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

It cannot be beat!

In my opinion, CR just isn't worthwhile.
I just find it much more worthwhile to go to Asia. Sure you pay "X" amount for a plane ticket, but once your there you virtually have zip for a hotel bill, I can eat for dollars a day, and the mongering aspect is so perfect its just hard to compare.

Sometimes if you wait around you can grab a last minute flight to Asia for 700$ or so. Take into account its usually 400$ or so to CR. Although Ive never done it, I think a 4-5 day trip to Asia would be fairly viable.

Plus as mentioned, I hate searching for good service. If I wanted to phase out the good from the bad, I would sit at home. I dont want to interview people for every little detail. "Will you do this, will you do that, will you go for dinner with me, how long you stay?" Not my idea of fun. So far I have yet to have a girl in LOS or PI not do what I want.

Price wise, I cant justify spending 100$ for 1-2 hours, when I can get an absolute stunning show-girl in Thailand for TLN for 70$ You can easily have "hot" girls for much less.

So for you S.Florida guys, yeah CR is a great place. But for anyone with good flight times to Asia, I doubt many will say its worth their time to go to CR.

I just got back yesterday from a ten day trip to CR. I love it as much as ever and had perhaps my best trip yet. Trip report forthcoming.
Those who keep bashing CR should make the simple choice of just not going instead of going and complaining.
If you cant have fun mongering in CR you are either gay or miserable or both.
CR rocks.

But for those guys saying CR is amazing; have you been anywhere else?
Everyone is going to have a certain perspective on it pending their travel history and personal experiences, but unless you have been to Thailand or DR or Colombia, how can you really say CR is phenominal?

What are you really comparing against, back home?

Aside from flight costs, and I suppose time even though time isnt even good where I live; what is GOOD about CR?

Tell you what:
I speak spanish fluently, so I'm guaranteed a better time than most. I thoroughly enjoy mongering in a language I know - spanish, french, or portuguese, not english so much...

JFK - SJO -> 4.5 HRS
JFK - BKK -> 18+ HRS.

that's each way, so 9 vs 36 hrs IN FLIGHT!

When they got rid of JFK -> RIO flights, I seriously got bummed out, b/c I now can't get to Rio in under 10 hours, STILL more viable than the far east, and I personally like it better.

Now, ok, CR doesn't ROCK!, but not only does it have it's place, for what it is, it DOES rock.

I'm thinking of going down Wed, and back Friday, I have Thurs and Friday off already, so it's just 1 day off of work more, and I get 3 days in a beautiful country, with beautiful women, and a nice atmosphere.

CR does rock! nowhere else can I get what I'm going to get in 3 days! If I went to Asia I'd have a little less than 12 hours to enjoy it.

If I went to Rio I'd have 24.

In CR I'll have 48! and will have only taken 2.5 days away from my life in the US...

CR ROCKS SOLID.

Now the HDR still sucks! :)

To Answer you YES!!!! I have been to Asia ,PI, Rio, the DR. I totally disagree with you on the comment a 4 to 5 day trip is viable to Asia. I tried it for me it does not work. When i came back it took me 3 days to recover LOL.

But again YMMV. Which is why I am not sure why some guys have to be so insistent that CR is bad. For some of us it works! It is easy, convenient, and you can have fun.

YES Asia offers a much better gfe and service is everywhere. But, for me, I cannot plan long range or take 7 to 14 day trips right now.

So CR works, it is fun! There you go my opinion. It is an opinion and mine is different. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Yeap, crazy to do a short trip to Asia and for me same applies to CR. I just can't do either short time.

I see those that live in FL or TX or I guess pretty much anywhere you can get a non-stop to CR for a reasonable price as lucky individuals. If a cheap direct flight were available to me, I could easily see me leaving Thursday night and coming back in the evening on Monday. Lots of short long-weekend trips would enable me to gain a lot more Spanish and I agree that speaking Spanish has to improve one's experience in CR.

I voted Rarely Sucks because I have certainly had some infuriating muy Tico moments in CR but have also learned things can turn around quickly and not to get discouraged when things go bad. Last trip was a blast and one of the best but it doesn't just depend on chicas with me, having some funny CRT guys around makes a trip truly memorable, fun and there's no time for boredom between sessions.

Some more recent opinions-
Quote:
Limon sucks ass..
Phuck jaco , it is a shit hole ... i hope they blow the place up !!!
Guess a couple guys thought the poll was intended as a joke, not at all. I really was curious on what members thought about the recent negativity and am surprised at the results so far- 1/3 have voted that CR SUCKS at least occasionally. I wonder if any of those live there, anyone else noticed CR has it's share of miserable, spiteful gringos?

I was a "CR sucks occasionally" vote. As VB says, "Familiarity breeds contempt." But what other destinations can you get to that takes only 7 hours travel time from ORD? Have unlimited latin chicas at your whim and still be a REASONABLY good value. It has its upside.

But I do have to agree with QBF. Usually, the HDR is a dog pound. As has been said ad nauseum, yes, you can find the 7's, 8's and 9's. But the reality is that most of the population of the HDR is in the 3-6 range. When I'm short on time and need to find some acceptable entertainment quickly, the HDR is the last place on my list that I would try. You might walk in and find a gold mine or, usually, find a kennel. Just my opinion. Having said all of that, if I lived there, I would probably spend plenty of time there. I could wait for the acceptable companion to come along. I would sit there, sip my $3 beer and be content.

I voted CR doesn't suck: I have been to other destinations granted that was a very long time ago and any comparison would not be valid. Considering my current situation and position in the lifecycle I don't see how I can beat this place. Four hours away, after over a decade of visiting very comfortable there and even in the inflationary world we live in today still a very good value.

I think the greatest asset I have ( make that two assets ) that enables me to enjoy Costa Rica is a good attitude and a willingness to wait for the right opportunity. For many years I searched for instant gratification. I would drag into the elevator pretty much every good-looking little thing that came in the door now I'm much more patient.

I have no problem with people expressing their opinion. I like the place and if you don't that is your business. That said I will say I do find it interesting that people who express such harsh feelings about a location still go there. I myself am not a big fan of MPs. Yes pretty much every trip every day or so I walk through the two most well-known. Why because I want to make sure I'm not missing out on something. My point being I don't like them but I don't have the need to trash them.

Lee – Thank you for expressing my same sentiments. Save me from typing them. I also got the same style about MP’s, not a fan but still a pu*sy market and shopping does not cost anything.

I am glad that Paco started this thread as it draws attention to the "piling on" that can occur when someone has a different point of view. I was planning on posting my Rio trip report, which is not flattering, but then decided against it. I simply don't need the hassle.

All the more reason to post it Devo. What good is a forum if members are afraid to post their honest opinions on places they visit, experiences with P4P women and places of business for fear of upsetting others? Who cares if someone disagrees or wants to argue about it- share your experience. I've heard (via PM) that guys have bad sessions, crazy women, overpaid and even got ripped off in Rio but for some reason we hardly ever read about any of that here. Is there some sort of unwritten code not to say anything negative about "the greatest mongering place on earth"?

PL good thread and in the right section so all can see and participate. I think CR rocks but I have never been to panama, columbia or rio. But I do know that I am easy

If you have good ladies and good cats to hang with I am cool for a mongering adventure 8)
