right on the corner, right on the price and atmosphere. Trust me guys if Bangkok Thailand was a six hour plane ride away from most any place in the United States Vegas Bob would pretty much have the Del Ray to himself and he be taking girls home for $10 a night. Now don't start yelling at me about the pros and cons of Bangkok I was just using it as an example. Costa Rica is only a two to six hour flight away from most any place in the United States. So therefore it's right on the corner just like your neighborhood quick stop. The price is neutral. That is you can get it cheaper in a less desirable place or you can pay more in a more desirable place.

And for the average guy Costa Rica sounds like a lot more safer place than Mexico were someplace in South America. Throw in the fact that you married guys can use a fishing trip as an excuse you have a really good destination that provides a reasonably priced quality product.

Now if they were a 12 to 24 hour flight away I don't think you'd see anywhere near the people you do.

YO: Reasons for discovering CR

I do not qualify for the above list but certainly it is is obvious how fellows have found this land of plenty.

1. The internet
2. Costaricasex.com and Costaricaticas.com...stemming from above
3. Other websites on CR....again stemming from the internet
4. Word of mouth
5. Initial innocent vacation to CR.

A number of members have asked me when and why I first went to CR. Initially it was a couple of Vietnam grunts along with myself that ventured to Central America to find several buddies that had served with us in Vietnam. This was circa 1972 or 1973. These soldiers, some who had tours of 2 or 3 years had removed themselves from society because they were trying to escape the real world. Sadly we only found one. He refused to come back with us and several months later ended his life.

I was enamored with the CR culture and of course the ladies. Only one other trip in the 70's but returned for trips in the 80's.

Hell, I may have some daughters or grand K*ds in Cr by now. Por favor, just remember that when you approach a 18 to 21 yr old chica.

Yea I know....I'm just pitiful.

I agree that the availability ED Meds like Viagra(first approved in 1996, I believe) has to be a big component here as well. If you can't perform, why bother? Stay home with the missuss. :( My pop died Jan '96. Boy he would have Loved this place!

Also I would add, that not only has the internet provided easier access to information about CR and other destinations, but the wide open access to porn and images of sexual activity it offers has changed our values, opinions, beliefs on sex. Some of us have become sex addicts. Some of us have become desensitized to the moral ramifications of engaging in "forbidden" sex acts. Some, realizing how miserable their sex life was at home, were called to action. All of this and more have facilitated many journeys on the path to becoming a "hobbyist."

Why CR over other destinations?

Not mongering long enough to be qualified to answer.....but... I think you have to consider the peripherals like, safety, climate, relatively reliable service, affordability, stable goverment, legality, no crazy diseases, safe water to drink, decent food, ex-pat infrastructure. It's the whole package that seems to make it work better here than other places.

PR,

Quite frankly, I was surprised that with the exception of you and I, nobody else mentioned viagra. I am one of those cases....even if I had found CR on the internet, without viagra, there would have been no point in coming. There seems to be a large percentage of CR mongers over the age of 50......no doubt, a large percentage of them are using ED drugs.

PR,

Your comment about your "POP would have loved this place"; got me thinking about my own DAD.. Hell if you think I am "BAD" and go crazy at times here!!!. If HE had ever been able to come here, he would have never left and would have died a very happy man  . MOM sure would not have been happy thou :(

Took my Dad with me on my first mongering trip in 1962 to Monterrey Mex. (He did not know why I was going; I thought). Condoms falling out of his wallet in the immigration office, tripped and fell while checking out the hot chicas the first day in Mex, kept loosing him because he would wander off following a chica, never saw him at night all week; found out later he had at least one chica every night.

Now you know where I got my addiction  :P . LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON :P 8)
