Richards if you are down towards Cocoa Beach you can stop at Publix and find it for $6.99 a six pack.

Richards, if you do not want to make the trek to Brevard County, did you try the ABC store on A1A in Ormond? They seem to have (IMH, limited,O) a good beer selection for Volusia County. Certainly better than their location on Mason west of Ridgewood in DB.

Good luck. :D

they have it at my Publix in Miami Lakes, but who cares when you can get Tona, Presidente, or many other GOOD beers. I drink Imperial when I'm in CR, but IMO it's definitely not anywhere neer the top ten. I guess it's good for nostalgiac purposes.

The most out-of-the-way North Carolina side-road Texaco with a mini-eatery in the corner (that kind) SOLD IMPERIAL and PRESIDENTE for like two weeks, maybe three!

And it was 1 mile from my house. Haven't found it anywhere else.

I did a double take, saw the Imperial Chicken (or whatever) and was, "Holy crap", gotta buy them out. And did.

Then the owner decided he didn't want to sell beer anymore.

Sigh...

Did you mean "Tonya" the Nicaraguan beer? Where can you get that in S FLA? Love that beer!

I was rather surprised to see this thread about people frantically hunting down Imperial. Must be about the nostalgia as that is the most bitter, wretched tasting beer I have ever had. The chicas avoid it like the plague when offered a beer, and for good reason...

No it is CervezaTona from Nicaragua. I prefer Victoria. Tona has always come with a mickey finn from my vast experience in the Nic.

I also lend an ear to the urban legend that in 1946 the Imperial Brewery was purchased by some German Imigrants. They brought the quality brewmaster techniques with them from the old country. Paid with silver and gold fillings. That would splain the "chicken thing" refered to or would that possibly be another symbolic Iron Eagle birdy like thingy on the label?

Then Costa Rica abolished its military after raining high ground fire down on the military HQ from the roof of the Del Rey. (Arty military advisors?) You can still see the pock marks from the 80MM shells on the former barracks and museum of today. Oh those youthful days of José Figueres Ferrer, the rebel on a mission of peace and destiny. Main act to follow starring Oscar Arias with a post Nobel & Constitutional Amendment encore.

The ticos toted it up the old stairwell near the sign in desk for chica totem ups of today. Then they liberated the brewery from the former nazis turned capitalist with pockets overflowing with fillings and nationalized the brewery in true tico methodology.

Meanwhile, United Fruit and the Kennedy Admin had their way with the Banana Republics. I love to ride the new train on the old road bed.

Tune in later for tales of William Walker and the Free Booters while in the 1850's on a merc mission to conquer all the central american countries and annex them to the US as slave states until santa rosa and Juan Santamaria detonated a road side bomb (circa 1850) and ended the campaign. Chased them back to Granada...yada yada yada

You can get Imperial at the tica bar on Hollywood Beach along the broadwalk in SoFlo by the pink elephant which used to be a religious college.

Salud!

If anyone finds it in the Tampa area, please let me know. Ive found a source for Centenario Rum here, but Im not paying $40 a bottle for it. Not when I can get it for $8 at duty free.

My experience with Tona was in Leon during a stretch in 03. Returning by car from Honduras stopped at a roadside bar to watch the sun set and meet new friends. Hooked up with a very nice nica that seemed to really like me. They only served Tona and at this particular establishment, it was served with a mickey finn back. So that is why I am not a big fan of Tona as illogical as that is.

Tuanis I believe it is. Next to O'malleys. I lived east of A1A for years in Hollywood on Van Buren St. and enjoyed the tico hut as we called it. It is like a tico corner bar with beer eats latin music and dancing. Super friendly people. Mostly ticos and latinos with a few relaxed gringo tourists

Not been back in years since moving south to Miami. It is on my list of places to visit in the coming weeks. I miss Hollywood Beach or Hollyweird Beach as it is commonly referred to .
