I usually leave all of my loose change except for 500 Colones coins for the maid. The pile of coins usually builds up by about $2 a day or so and if the maid does not help herself to it (which she usually does not) I just let it build up over my stay and then sweeten the pot with a few loose bills when I leave.
Tipping the maids well is important to me. They do such thankless work and in places like ZB they even do your laundry and fold it nicely. It is often like having a neat-freak grandma picking up after you.
I think these ladies work hard and deserve good tips. It is amazing how many clean towels you get when you are willing to toss an extra buck or two to the hard working housekeeping staff. Even the ladies at HDR smile and try to be friendly.
I often wonder about the staff at ZB too. These ladies do a pretty good job of not only keeping up the guest rooms upstairs but they also have the tiresome task of cleaning up the MP rooms.
I have never tipped the cleaning staff at ZB except when I stayed there. I feel a little bad about that.
On my last visit I has a session with Naomi. While she was out of the room, I started the shower, but the showerhead had a mind of its own and the end result was water all over the room. The staff brought new sheets and a bunch of towels, and the session proceeded as normal. I should have given those ladies a little extra.
Has anyone not staying at ZB ever given the staff a little extra?
