If you do end up in the customs system, you may want to have your translator help you with that too. In fact if you had a CR citizen or resident with you to assign the goods to, the process will go a lot smoother.
So far, I'm going to be my translator. That should make this journey even more interesting.

Thanks for tip on having a note in Spanish. I will Babel Fish one and bring it with me. If someone would be so kind as to write a note in Spanish that I could copy, that would be appreciated. Hopefully, if I do get stopped, maybe they would just let me go on.
About the CR citizen or resident; would I assign them when, and if, I have to go to customs? Do they have to be with me, or will a note do it? A local has told me about stores in CR that sell toys for half price. I will try and get more information, and possibly buy local.
The same person that offered information about toys, has offered to call the hospital for me, that will be a big help. My thought about getting the presents to the hospital would be to rent the SL van, and at least have the driver translate to get me in the door. Hopefully after that the hospital has someone who could translate, if not a lot of smiling will work.
What am I forgetting? Any input is greatly appreciated.
Again, thanks to all. I'm sorry to be such a pain in the butt, and have to ask so many questions.
Happy holidays...
