Hi ID, thanks for your contribution to the discussion.

The entire thread has been a discussion of political topics and it has been very civil.

In Costa Rica rules are flexible. As long as people don't get stupid and we can exchange ideas without treating each other with disrespect, we should not discourage a civilized discussion. Don't you agree?

How was your weekend? Did you get laid?

The rules of the forum are not the rules of Costa Rica. Are Costa Rican rules flexible? Maybe but that has no relevance to CRT. I am not discouraging any "civilized discussion" just the interjection of United States politics into a discussion that should be about Costa Rica. I did not single you out as there are a couple of posts that cross the boundary that has been laid down by the Admin.

ID, with all due respect my friend, who made you admin?

This thread is not partisan in the sense where it is promoting one party or political philosophy over another. This is a general discussion about the perception of the currant administration in the international theater. There is a big difference between evaluating administrative competence and promoting a political philosophy.

Peace brother.

ID, with all due respect. I posted an article a while back regarding CAFTA.
https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewto ... sc&start=0

You responded 3 times in that thread :?

I think many of us on the board have an interest in the outcome of the CAFTA vote. The discussions have intelligent and civil. Points of view of have been expressed in a "Gentlemenly Manner" as this board promotes such discussions.

True, one of the gudelines of the board is, No Politics. I thank Admin for allowing us to discuss this very important topic and we have demonstrated our ability to do so in a polite manner.

You have commented on this topic in a couple of threads always informative, factual and showing no bias. I appreciate your input.

My no political discussion comment had nothing to do with CAFTA. It was posted immediately after this post was made on the CAFTA thread.

I think the internet has really f*cked up the entire potical process.

That is an interesting perspective.

I am not sure I agree.

I think the biggest problem is that the religious right has highjacked the Republican Party. There is no such thing as a moderate republican any more. I don't think you can blame that on the Internet.

On the Democratic side, they have never been able to get their act together. The Democrats have always been driven by individual personalities.

You all know what is coming don’t you? We are headed for a Clinton/Obama ticket for the Democrats. They will be pretty much unbeatable.

I do not see that as relevant to CAFTA and is in fact a political statement in my way of thinking..

ID, again, who made you Admin?

If you look at all of those comments they are of an analytical nature. The comment about the internet is about process, it is not promotional of either party. Who would argue that there are no traditional moderate republicans anymore? Republicans cannot get elected anymore unless they follow the Christian social agenda. Who can argue that the democrats have never been as organized as republicans? As far a speculation and about Clinton/Obama, that is all it is - speculation. I am not promoting them.

Not a single one of those comments are promoting a political philosophy.

I will plead guilty to going off topic, but that happens all the time here.

I am trying to figure out a polite way to tell you to get a life brother. You are not the Admin of this site. I feel you are out of bounds in your interference in a civilized discussion.

From this mornings Inside Costa Rica.

" Costa Rica Beats With One Heart As It Says "Sí"
In the words of Costa Rican president, Oscar Arias Sanchéz, Costa Rica now beats with one heart and beginning today the country can begin to write a new future, now that the question of the Tratado de Libre Comercio (TLC) has been decided.

Well, almost.

Questions of fraud and irregularities by the "NO" in the way the "Si" campaign was directed and the accusations of use of government funds to promote the vote in favour of the trade deal, means a manual recount of all the votes, which could take as much as two weeks.

The final result, pending the recount, was 787.147 votes o 51.58% in favour and 738.949 votes or 48.42% against.

Voter participation was 60%, well above the 40% requirement stipulated by the TSE, and much higher that most of the presidential elections.

Broken down by province, San José, Cartago, Limón and Heredia all voted in favour of the trade deal, while residents of Alajuela, Puntarenas and Guanacaste said No.

Cartago had the greatest difference in the vote, with almost 13% margin, 56.47% voting Si while 43.53% voting No, while the rest of the provinces keeping within the overall margin.

"The borders that divide us disappear, an were not of the 'si' or 'no'... as president I am the first to submit to the process", said Arias from Casa Presidencial.

Some four blocks away, at the "No" campaign headquarters, Eugenio Trejos made a passionate call for calm and refused to recognize the majority vote of the "Si", and accompanied by Otton Soís and other leaders of the No movement, called for a scrutiny of all votes.

Pending any major changes in the voting results, the trade deal now goes back to the Legislative Assembly where deputies now have the duty ratify the trade deal and approve the parallel laws that compliment the TLC."

Complete with quote marks

I have to say, this seems sort of hard for me to believe. In my conversations with Ticos, I don’t think I ever came across anyone that was in favor of it. I never felt like I had a good grasp of both sides of the issues, so I sought out someone that was in favor of it so I could contrast the points of view. I am generally in favor of free trade, so I wanted to understand the arguments on the other side of the issue. I never found such a person that could answer the arguments of the critics. Every Tico I met was against it. Weird. On one level I am very surprised with this result, then again on another I am not surprised at all. I have real questions as to if fraud was involved in getting this past.
