Ditto here.

I did not feel particularly welcome posting here at first either. It was only when I pushed back a little did some of these jerks back off a little.

I think it is great that the civilized majority are exerting their influence and speaking up.

Personally I have no problem with a smart ass remark now and then, I am guilty of that myself. But from my view it is all good if it is delivered in a playful spirit. (except when it comes from that Jackass MG..... LOL) There is no need to put someone down because you disagree or because you think someone is misinformed. Some of these old codgers here are just mean. Who needs that? As a membership organization we should be looking out for one another and helping each other out.

And as it continues I can see it now. Walking in to the SL or DR, the gruops of "brothers" at different parts of each respective venue with their posse and the other ones with theirs. This group hangs with this member because he doesn't like what that other member said so let's just claim our own turf. F those guys over there.

It's hard to tell if your post is based on your actual experience or you are projecting a possible scenario. While I certainly agree that there has been considerable jousting on the board, some of it mean spirited, my experience in CR is another matter altogether.

I believe that while we are in Costa Rica, CRTers behave well and petty bickering is by far the exception rather than the rule. I think it's because while we are there, we feel good about ourselves and enjoy being with folks who don't judge us about our passion for the hobby. Sure, shit may be happening at home or at work or in Iraq or wherever, but while in Costa Rica, we are in friggin' paradise. What's not to like?

In my own case, while at home and reading the board, I might feel a twinge of annoyance when someone posts something that I feel is gawd awful stupid (I usually manage to bite my tongue rather than to rant). However, it is amazing just how less judgmental I am while I am sitting in the SL, ZB or Del Rey!

There are exceptions to everything and I have felt excluded from the "in crowd" in CR, especially when I was brand new. But you can make your own aquaintances real fast down there. And these become your new friends and wingmen you see trip after trip. Unless you are a complete idiot, it's fairly easy to hook up with some cool people. Also, the aggression that occurred at the Labor Day party was an anomoly, IMO. It received a lot of publicity simply because it was so rare.

So what I am saying is that I believe that by and large we act like gentlemen while in CR. When we get home, we return to normal.

I agree with CC, there are definitely cliques and I have felt left out on a few occasions. But that's human nature.

To expand on what he wrote... at home or at work guys like to argue and bicker because of the anonymity, especially when most guys don't know who they are. When they are face to face in CR, they act quite differently.

Good post Ciaociao. Guys may have opposing view points on the board and express them very strongly but there is no personal animosity. When they meet in SJO they share a beer and get to know each other.

I liken it to my time as a Councilman on a Town Council. We had differing view points on legislation and argued our respective points voraciously. When the meting ended we retired to the local watering spot and practiced good fellowship.

Harder to do here because we are not sitting on the same podium but are separated by distance as well as the written word as opposed to face to face dialog.

I agree Orange...to a degree. I may be the least anonymous here, both by circumstance and by choice.

Some guys you think are cool when you're reading their posts, then when you meet them they turn out to be...what's the word...arrogant. Loud. Obnoxious. So I guess it works both ways. :)

Hopefully, bad first, second and/or third impressions are overcome, and good friendships can be forged.

I think, seriously that the biggest problems arise from frustration. We all love Costa Rica and many of us either can't get there often enough or simply don't do well while in C.R. This frustration unfortunately comes out as bickering, insults, sarcasm and other negative behaviors. What's actually sexual frustration turns into something else. I'm as guilty of it as anyone here...for sure.

I also think some of us, particularly if we're retired, under-employed (me) or otherwise have too much computer time on our hands tend to sound off more often, giving the appearance of arrogance or a "know-it-all" attitude. This simply happens because we spend more time reading monger boards and writing. Fills the time and entertains. Unfortunately, this zealous participation leads us to engage in arguments or over-analysis.

I think most guys who post here are quality individuals. No one, and I mean no one I have met face-to-face in Costa Rica has impressed me negatively, and I would like to think that most guys find me likeable, too. Crossed fingers.

So many of us take the extra time and make the extra effort to help each other, just as you have helped me in the past.

Group hug.

CC, I meant that as a possible scenario. I have hung with a couple dozen members over the last year and EVERY single one of them was not only a good good, fun guy but also someone with whom I could see myself hanging with back home. Again just a scenario I would hope to never see.

In retrospect my post about guys hanging in seperate areas may have been a bit heavy-handed.. I was pushing this point because I am somewhat passionate about this site and my new found Costa Rica. To give some perspective (the following may sound a bit sappy) The month before my first trip last Jan I lost my 5 best friends. I almost cancelled my trip because I felt so down. I forced myself to go, walked into the DR and was blown away. My second day I ran into the guys at happy hour. I ended up out at dinner with a bunch of great guys who were total strangers in the normal term of the word, but I felt like I had friends again. Here I was in a foreign country for the first time in my life and I had buddies, like we had known each other for years. In short what I am saying is as momentous as the first walk into th BM is, the best parts of my trip were hanging out with my new friends. The best part of CRT is the welcoming comraderie that we should all embrace.

I agree. You can find hookers anywhere, even in Minnesota (although you wouldn't want to f*ck them with a stolen d*ck). For me, the best part of my C.R. trips is the interaction and friendship with the CRT guys.

I talk frequently on the phone with a dozen other CRT'ers, e-mail/PM with two dozen others. I have made the best friends of my adult life during my past 3-odd years in costaricaticas.

:D

RayoX,

Now you're talking!! Your experience mirrored mine somewhat. I had been divorced for short while and feeling the way one does when that happens (a mixture of giddy and pathetic) when I took my first trip. When I arrived, I hooked up with a mixture of newbies and vets, and came away with a bunch of new buddies. When I wrote my first trip report, I mentioned that the greatest surprise for me was the quality of the guys I met. I was so enthusiastic that I feared sounding too gay. Then MuchoGusto and El Ciego gently busted my balls about my sounding faggish and even stronger friendships were made.

When I remember the good things I have received out of CRT, I can take the bickering with a grain of salt. And for certain XRay, I look forward to hoisting a cold one with you on a future occasion. After all, the guys on the board I haven't yet met are just future friends.

Ciaociao

Personally, I don't think that the problem is how most of us behave when we are on vacation and when we are getting laid 3 times a day.

There are a few bad apples. But,

I think CTR has a bad wrap with a lot of the girls because of posting pictures without permission and some of the degrading posts on this web site directed as toward our chicas.
