If I remember correctly, it was started by the CRT member (with an incredibly small schlong), KCCostaRica !!!! (oops, did I say that out loud )?!?!? :P

Mucho Gusto :D

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am going to really miss Blue Devil and his highly creative and informative bumping. He left the board today in a huff and I know that all the rest of you will miss him as much as I will.

Who wants to take bets as to how long he will be gone? I give it 3 days, max.

Hell he is probably lurking out there right now, plotting his return with yet another bump of the Ball Saving Thread.

Why did Blue Devil leave?

Welcome back Prolijo, your posts have always been beneficial and informative, (unlike all the smart-assed posts around here )

I didn't vote since none of the choices fit, the I'll OCCASIONALLY make a post like that or enjoy reading them, but thats not what I came here for... one is close except coming here for a daily laugh IS a big part of why I still come here, as probably do many other members that have been around a while and no longer need or seek much new info on but enjoy the entertainment value, daily updates, news and commentary by certain posters.
As one of the original CRT smart-asses I can't help but take this thread a bit personally and apologize if my sense of humor and wise cracks have become contagious and infected other members (except for Florida, that sick puppy is in a class of his own). I actually used to read every new post on the board daily but with all the new members and large number of posts there's just no way I have time anymore which is why I rarely make long posts or start deep-thought out discussions like I used to. If there's only time in the morning for a 1 or 2 line comment then that's all I post. I do see your point, a lot of posts probably would be better off in the smack section but unfortunately those usually don't start off or end up there, not sure how to fix that. The comic relief can be amusing if you know the members but if you are actually looking for information it can be aggravating to have to browse through a couple pages of nonsense before things get back on topic. Maybe it's just a forum-phase that will pass soon, I'd type more but have to be up at 5:30 AM. :x

Admin1 suggested that it was time to stop bumping the Ball Shaving thread. He took it really hard. This is a very difficult time for him. I hope he recovers.

And PocoLoco, you need to vote!!!!!! I realize there are no perfect choices. But we need to stop the "humorless minority" from taking over the board! LOL

Having stopped reading the ball shaving thread after it went past 2 pages I missed Blue Devils announced departure.

I certainly hope that upon reflection he changes his mind and resumes being an active member of this board.

His post are informative and often are about parts of the country that most here have never been to as he travels extensively. He also has posted lengthy trip reports full of good information about Germany, DR, etc.

I certainly find his impute a lot more valuable than some of the "humorous" posts that seem to proliferate lately.

Brother this thread is labled: Want to discuss MG's farts, pink elephants, etc. - post here. What were you expecting?

Before yesterday, I had never really engaged in posting "humorous" posts and even then it was probably a minority of the posts I put up yesterday. I have to say, that I am a bit taken aback by the backlash to what I preceive to be "a little" humor.

I never realized that banging chicks was such serious business.

Have a great day ......

If Blue devil is reading, I hope you change your mind. I personally find great value in your posts about exploring the other aspects of the CR countryside.

You're right. I don't know what I was really expecting when I labeled the thread that way.... so I've changed the title. I suppose part of me suspected that there would be an element of that, but part of me had hoped it would also elicit a little serious discussion as to the propriety or at least the extent of it lately on this board. What I didn't expect was that this thread would become the substitute location for all that sort of thing once the other thread was locked down.

You guys say that this is a "Board of Gentlemen For Gentlemen", but I don't see what is particularly gentlemenly or at least mature about making fart jokes. Most of the humor is very sophomoric and juvenile and not really all that funny. That would be fine if that were it. I enjoy a little silly humor every now and then too. And if it were just a little humor here and there, those who enjoyed that sort of thing could simply enjoy it and those that didn't could simply ignore. The problem is that it has grown to the point that it is almost impossible to simply ignore. With so many posts being made everyday it is virtually impossible to read every one. And when you click on active threads to see what has been posted since you were on last only to find that the addition was some redundant one-liner that was hardly funny at all the first time someone threw it out, well that is time taken from you that could have been used to read the more worthwhile posts that you'll now never get to.

If you look you'll see that the subtitle on this site is NOT a "Board of Gentlemen For Gentlemen", although we ARE all hopefully gentlemen. The title on this site is "the #1 Source for Information on Costa Rica". In my view a little humor is perfectly fine and contributes to the atmosphere of this place as some sort of a club (for gentlemen!), but it shouldn't overtake what we're really hear to discuss - useful information and insight relating to all aspects of CR, and particularly its ticas. That should be stuff we can use whether its what places are good to go to eat or to stay or what tours to go on between sessions, or more chica related stuff like chica reviews, changes at various monger MP's, bars and clubs, the art of negotiation, how to deal with "novias", etc.

BTW, kc, the reason Blue Devil left was NOT that he took it really hard when Admin1 suggested that it was time to stop bumping the Ball Shaving thread. If you looked carefully, you would have seen that his one and ONLY post on that thread was hus last one announcing his departure from the board. Now why would he choose that particular thread of all the threads to make such an announcement? If he was going to go off topic anyway why suddenly post there and not on any other thread or even why not just start another thread specifically for that purpose? And did you really miss the sarcasm, when he uncharacteristically bumped this thread twice in a row with my initial post in full quotes both times (to maximize the column inches that he used up) followed by 2 one word retorts. I really hope he returns with his worthwhile contributions to the board, and maybe he will. But I have to wonder how many other long time members have been driven off more quietly by the drivel that seems to have overtaken the board.

As it stands now, it is not a matter of stopping "the 'humorless minority' from taking over the board!" Apparently the majority of the members don't come here for the jokes and at best tolerate it, while less than a third bother making such jokes themselves more than rarely. So it seems it is actually the self-styled "funny minority" that is taking the board over from everyone else.

Pro,

I greatly value your input on a wide range of subjects, but I will have to respectfully disagree on the level of problem you see here.

It is an open forum with invaluable info and lot's of funny stories and camraderie. Sometimes the humor is good, sometimes not. As long as people are friendly and do not flame I welcome all the input.

I read almost everything posted (I have way too much time during the day) with the exception of the Ball Shaving Thread.

I skim posts that are by posters who I find little value in their postings and read in detail those from members I respect (even your lengthy and well written posts   .

My final point on this subject is that often the threads ramble and have sidebars going, but generally we get to very useful discussions and multiple viewpoints on the issues at hand. Evena fter living here for 15 months I am still getting a lot of value from the board and use it as a way to discuss issues I am facing in a truly cathartic manner.

I really do not think anything is broken,

Yes, you are right my 3 brief references to "fart" were sophmoric. I stand before a jury of my peers a broken man. ........ Shesh, I already apologized, what more do you want?

Come on brother get a grip. I went back and looked just to make sure I am not going insane. There were 3 brief references to the word fart.

It was my way suggesting that the thread stunk.

I think you are way over reacting. The fart references were very brief and a small part of what I posted.

It would be different if they were interjected into a serious discussion, but you yourself said the thread was rediculas. They were only 3 lines in a 5 page thread that was absolutely going NOWHERE!!!!! I just don't get the point as to why this justifies such an extream reaction.

I voted for: I'll OCCASIONALLY make a post like that or enjoy reading them, but thats not what I came here for.

Are you saying that I fit into the group that "tolerates: humor?

If so then I would say you are misinterprating the data. The way I read the data, 60% approve and participate. In a presidential election, that would be a landslide.

If you read what I posted I was lamenting the loss of Blue Devil's very worthwhile trip reports. I stated I found them a lot more valuable then some of the "humorous" posts that have become more frequent lately. If you took that personally........... to bad.
