I make it a habit not to leave my passport/phone out for anybody to peruse. As such, rather than concern myself with speculation over why I am visiting CR over LD weekend, I instead tell people I am going to Aruba. Of course, my inner circle know the truth but too many people are aware of my bonvivant leanings and if I made it public I was going to CR it would likely cause me grief. Last trip I believe my excuse for travel was a bachelor party in Cancun.
Jack- only you know the dynamics of your relationship and if she is going to investigate (and I would bet she will). Good luck.

Don't show her your passport. I have left girlfriends in hotel rooms while mongering and then claimed to go on a "fishing trip" while she takes another daytime excursion to see the volcanos. I always use plenty of sunscreen so she knows that I won't get a sunburn while fishing!

I have no problem with this since I pay for the trip.

Jack C, Costa Rica is not widely known for mongering outside of people who look for p4p. It is mostly known for jungles, canopy tours, and stuff like fishing. I am trying to get one of my married friends down for a week of decadence and a real fishing trip. I have met fellow mongers trying to be very low key because of a Gringa and K*ds back home and the same thing works...
1.Have an excuse for going in the first place.. i.e. business trip, volunteer as a missionary with church group.
2.Tons and tons of "Nice Nice photos that you appear in".. i.e. museums, artisans, fauna.
3.If all else fails get rid of the evidence, passport fell on BBQ, page got ripped out ect.
4.Scour computer for links and cookies that could point to CRT and the "Enchanted side of SJ".
5.Stay in name brand hotel out of gulch if she knows or pay cash for whole trip if she doesn't and stay in the gulch
6. ENJOY you only live once

Wow, didn't expect the response...but thanks to all! Oh, guess I didn't make this clear, but I'M NOT MARRIED! In a relationship, but no ring on the finger. I think I can pull the last minute quick trip thing.

There is no way I would try to extract a page from a passport. Not only is a passport government property but if the guys at the border spot that it will throw a big red flag.

I know there are guys from the USA who will make a color copy of a visa page and clip in into their passport, then travel to the likes of cuba and hand the passport (and maybe $20) to the customs official - already open to the copied visa page and then do the same thing upon return to the country of departure - say CR and then there is no record the US governemnt has to show he visited a country with travel restrictions.

cutting a page out of one's passport I think is a ticket to trouble or at least getting sidelined at US customs, and this would be a risk you'd bear every other time you used your passport.

If your not married than use the fishing trip excuse(get a couple of brochures),Defacing your passport seems a bit much given your situation.

I mean no offense by this, it comes from a man who gave up his balls in his marriage.

If you are not married, and worried about her searching through your sh*t, you may want to look into whether she is the right woman for you.
