The ticos dont seem to mind ( the above article not withstanding) nearly as much as the Japanese men did when I lived there for four years and banged everything in sight.
Japanese men seemed to feel a sense of inferority toward western men in general which was only exacerbated by all the phucking going on.
I never worried though. There are virtually no handguns in japan and I had no problems fending off several attackers the few times it happened to me in a bar.
One night myself and two canadian hockey player friends got jumped by about fifteen dudes in a bar. None of us was really injured beyond a cut or black eye but there were several attackers pretty badly hurt. All about some girls.
ON a funnier note, I would see westtern couples arrive to teach english. We would take bets how long it would take before the guy dumped the fat whining girlfriend and started banging japanese chics. Usually no more than two or three weeks.

I don't know first hand but I would imagine that
when one is wealthy, high maintenance is not high to

You see, it's really two things:

-> Gringos who know how to play the game play it well, and have chicas on speed dial. Different flavors of ice cream, for different days. You all know the drill here.

-> Gringos who are absurdly rich, who don't have adequate mongering training or backgrounds, or who are just so socially inept that they cannot function in a clear frame of mind, will pursue the 'hot' and 'off-limits' chicks to a passion, "Because they can". Then the tico boyfriend of the now-ex-novia who is dating the gringo will instruct his bodyguards to create holes in the gringo, "Because he can".

When testosterone meets testosterone, the only winner is T itself. I prefer to play my little twisted game of monopoly in an environment as free from conflict as possible. Then when conflict occurs, the game morphs into Risk. And I don't often play, because even the odds in that game are slim.

In my opinion, I'd rather have a quorum of hot-assed chicas on speed dial than chase a single girl to the ends of the earth, only to get a lead medal for the event.

Sigh.....
