Ya, I'm sitting here in the silence of the frozen tundra and missing it all too. Hmmmm, lets see what the airfares are today.

Hey,

In the past I always stayed at the Gran Via especially for the street sounds. I liked the street side, there was always a buzz but not overbearing. I could hear the blinds guys playing classical guitars, and they are very good. Sure, at times the tuba guy would be around but not much, he is usually bugging the guys at thePresidente. To me, the street sounds remind me that I'm in a different place than the US, I don't get that where I live. It also helps that I sleep like a dog, so it doesn't bother me at all. And I usually get in late in the evenings and things are pretty quiet by then.

The Gran Via had changed hands, not it is trying to be an upscale place and they want either $70 or $90/night, I forget which.

San Jose needs a noise ordinance, badly.

No honking horns except in emergencies, no street musicians, no yelling lottery numbers, no air horns on fake trolleys on Sunday, no tubas or flutes, no washtub base bands, no car alarms, no unmuffled cycles, no shit.

Can anyone report on the noise level in the Sleep Inn?
The title Sleep Inn sounds nice.

I would so much prefer to be hearing SJO's street noises all night long right now, instead of the crickets and sparrows on Suburbian NY...

I'd trade in most of my hours of sleep to be in SJO...

stop complaining :)

Yea, I think the Taxistas talk in code all night long with their car alarms. In front of the DR especially.

To me part of the "charm" of San Jose is the street scene that is so typically third world. You want quite? Find some laid back small country town in the hills of Vermont

I find SJ incredibly, obscenely, noisy and polluted - "pura vida"? They must be choking!

I have to agree with ID... :)

What could be more colorful then the
street scene in San Jose... 8)

The trick is not to get a room over the street if it's sleep that you seek...:roll::roll:

If one is staying at the Prez: ask for "A SOUTHERN VIEW"

The only true hawker that I can not stand is the the shoe-shine boy who has no shoes-shine polish... :?

Other then that, I find most of the street scene colorful....But not @ 4:00 am in the morning...

Iggy... :P

If it bothers u, like me, stay outside of the gulch a little ways, like I do--La Sabana area is quiet yet only 10 minutes to the gulch.

Ask for a room overlooking the parking lot (facing DR) less noise. If you go on the opposite side you will get all the normal traffic noise.

By the way the car alarms you hear are the Costa Rican national anthem. Get used to them :D

I'll tell you guys, the noise was sooo bad one night I found the fattest chica and paid her to sit on my face. She was soo fat that she drowned out the noise completely. Next time ear plugs, cheaper and the smell is better. :P

But seriously folks, it is part of the culture, and yes it can be annoying. Gotta take the good with the bad.

CHANCES, OCHO, TRES ,Cincuenta, HOY . BEEP, HONK

Amen, brother. STOP COMPLAINING!!!! I'll take the all-night street noise in SJO, lying next to a hot chica, over an ordinary, boring, quiet, no-pussy-gettin' night in the U.S........... ANY DAY !
