Just guessing but HDR probably does so well financially that there's no apparent incentive to change. Until some noteworthy competition were to appear I'd run it like a cash cow too.

As long as we are just dreaming here.............I would like to see the Aurola move the casino to the lobby, put a giant bar all along the perimeter walls of the lobby, put in some giant tv's (televisions you perverts), reduce the chica fees-in fact made Eddie the manager, and become a CRT sponsor.
There would be so many more chicas to choose from that TLN would probably be 25k to 30k.
Remember.....I'm just dreaming. The Miami Guppies can't keep my attention.

Kumar is for sale again?

Has been for about 4 months since the deal with Smutpeddler fell through. First $350.000 takes it. Jmac failed to come up with his $400K deal

WOW! Smut had been running the place and making changes.... even had it out with GR. Did the deal fall through or did Smut bail out? It seems he bailed considering he was actually there running the place at one point.

The price is down to 350 from what 950 or 900, was it? OH MY GOD!!! A building and a business for 350? Some people are trying to sell Gringos houses for 350 and now there is a business and a building for 350? Are things changing in CR? Has the real estate boom finally ended and having an effect? TLN as reported by TP for 100 no problema?

TP may be on to something... has it slowed down in CR? Really slowed down? I don't mean to hijack your thread TP... sorry, but a confirmed slow down is interesting.

As far as I'm concerned based on my previous 7 trips to Costa Rica the Labor Day weekend trip was a buyer's market. I thought that with the droves of gringos who were about to hit town would offset the balance of supply and demand against the gringos favor. But I was wrong as I found out quick enough.

In the past I would talk to a chica for a long time making her forget she was working, afterwards it was back to my room at discounted prices. This time around I hung out more with CRT members than not and when I saw something I liked I walked over to the chica and made about five minutes of small talk before making my offer. To my surprised all chicas but one said okay without blinking an eye.

The chica who refused my $60 offer for two hours did so because she heard from the Chica hotline that I don't pay. This is what happened... I was haning out at HDR drinking late one night. I met a very cute Tica that I wanted to take back to my room. I offered her $40 dollars and she agreed. We went back to my room and when it came time to pay her I discovered that I did not have enough to pay what we agreed upon. I told her that i was five dollar short and she didn't seem to mind. She walked away a happy customer. Well, she went back and probably talked to the chicas about me and what happened and word spread like wild fire.

I found this out the next day I returned to HDR. A chica I had been with for TLN a few day prior told me that everytime I got up to go to the men's room that several chicas walked up to her to warn her that I don't pay and don't offer to buy chicas drinks. Which is not true. But anyways, as I'm standing in the mens room I think to myself, "what's wrong with me? how come I haven't offered the two chicas I've been sitting with a drink or two?" I walk back to the bar and before I sit down I ask the two chicas if they would like something to drink and apologized for not offering earlier. Well the chicas look at each other and start laughing. I asked them what was so funny and that's when they told me the story about how all these chicas kept warning them about me. They said that they were going to ask me to buy them a drink to see what i would say but I beat them to the punch.

The chica I was previously with told me she told the chicas thanks for the heads up but I know this chico and he's a good guy. She also told me not to tell the other chicas she did a TLN with me for $100 because they would get on her case. The chicas are trying to manipulate the market but when you have bills to pay you have to take whatever you can get.

At the end of the night I took the chica for another TLN for $100 and it was a great time, again. Oh and Whitling took her friend away... where I don't know.

When I asked several chicas where are these other chicas I know but have not seen on this trip they said that they went back home because business was bad in CR.

Also, on several occasions and different venues I noticed and participate in circle jerks with CRT members as opposed to taking care of business. The chicas kept complaining that the gringos where spending too much time talking and drinking amongst themselves. To which I agree.

who knows but there where a many a chica standing around looking hungry. The plus side I did notice more thinner chicas who in the past where putting on the pounds. This is a good sign.

Back to the topic at hand: I will take Kumar for $250k with a couple of partners.

Inquire within...

p.s. hey muffy you need a job? you would make a great host!!

OK, i'll throw in my dos colones...

No, i am not an expert by any means on CR. But, i have been there 3x, aprox 26 days combined, in the past 3 months. So i do consider myself "current" on the puta situation, given that HDR is the only place i hang out in   .

Things are a little slow for the chica's. They tell me that there are too many chica's and not enough gringo's. If you guys look around at the BM, this is pretty obvious. As far as $ goes, i don't think that has changed much in the past few months. It's all about you. If she likes your company, feels like you won't be mean to her, than yes, you will get a good rate. If you are a freak, and want a "9", you better back the brinks truck up. I would do the same thing if i were them. It really isn't that much different than the USA as far as negotiations go. The real difference is, well, you guys know the diffence, and thats why we are here. :D

Pura Vida

Holiday Inn. There could be bars, restaurants, casinos, and rooms (booze, food, gambling, and beds). You could be there a week and never have to go outside.

Business is normal at the DR for the time of the year. Remember it IS Green Season. There will be more Gringos, and consequently even more chicas, come November which starts the High Season. Personally,I like this time of the year even better, because there are more chicas for less Gringos. This adds up to more for VB without as much negotiating necessary.

As far as the hypothesis of no DR is concerned, A hotel wouldn't be necessary to replace the bar action.Look at the Beetle Bar in Jaco. (no hotel and plenty of action) The Holiday Inn would certainly be a great option if someone could get them to sell it. The Balmoral would also be a good option. They are currently remodeling the outside. Unfortunately their attitude towards chicas is as Puritanical as the Holiday Inn.

Vegas Bob -

HOw about Sleep Inn HOtel? You can drive up and park your van in their gated lot. You walk right into the casino, find yourself a hot young chica and then you can take her out to your van.

Don't worrry... "If the van's a rockin' I won't C*m (sic) a knocking!"

This remided me of something. We are called Gingos because years ago our military men wore green clothes. The natives got tired of us & would say GREEN GO. The wanted us to leave :? . Well not much has changed thru the years as the chicas still say Green GO but it has a different meaning today which is get your green $$$ & Go to the nearest bedroom :? :) !

The word gringo has a somewhat vague history/etymology. If you're interested, here are a few sites. The story that you mentioned, Zip, has been called an urban legend by some, but who knows?

BTW, we gringos, according to the Mexicanos, are actually gabachos.

I can't see it coming from green if it originated from a Spanish speaking country.

Green is verde and I doubt they'd translate it first. I could see it being verdego.

Sorry Traylor,

But I have to disagree about your feeling of how the Ownership at the Del Rey does not care how their guest are treated. Since you have never stayed there you would not know how they treat their guest, especially ones that are regulars. You know how they treat someone that is on property but not a guest which is quite different.

I'm not saying that they are perfect but I have been treated with a great deal of respect by all of the staff including the owners, Greg in particular. I have stayed in the hotel more times than I can count and after my second stay I was greeted on arrival by name from the Bus Boy to the Desk Staff, maids and all of the bartenders and Del Mar waiters. Granted I am a generous tipper but not outragous and I tend to call the staff by their names and treat them with respect as well.

I take advantage of their airport pick-up and have always been greeted by the driver with the offer of a cold beer for the ride to the hotel.

I was involved in a small altercation on my first visit with a local gringo that was mocking a friend of mine because of his ethnic apperance and was backed up by the security people, who had watched the entire exchange. They threw the guy out that started the problem and aplogized to me for his behavior.

Greg has also mentioned to me that the business would not be what it is without the girls and that their policy is to hassle them as little as possible unless they are problem girls or drunk which becomes a problem for everyone. As far as your run in with them I can't speak to and understand where you might have a bad taste in your mouth due to the treatment you received. Other than the problem I've mentioned I've never seen them giving anyone a hard time unless they were obviously drunk and beligerent or a beligerent Tico.

I think you would have to agree that the Del Rey provides a very safe environment for all parties concerned and if they are geeting rich because of it more power to them. I just feel it is important to provide another experience to balance the discussion.

I would love to find and buy an alternative to the Del Rey to enrich myself and my partners. Maybe someone will do it like the HDR folks did, they built the hotel and the girls started coming in then the guys. They did not build the hotel to provide a place for mongers and chicas to get together, it just occurred because of the proxcimity to the biz. At least that's what Greg tells me.

Just my .02 cents worth.

my comments were not just based on the treatment I've recieved alone but on what I have witnessed while hanging out in the DR and by what chicas tell me, a few gringos as well.

And I agree they do provide a save place and have seen security do a fine job takin' care of business when they needed to. I just think management could do a better job of taking care of their customers, sorry that I've never stayed there, but I'm still a paying customer.

One need not look far to get great treatment from an owner... just walk over to SL and meet Bill. A great guy who knows how to treat people. I'm not a big fan of SL but Bill makes it me feel welcomed. I've never stayed there either and I will probably never book a room there but it's still a great hotel.

The one thing about HDR is that it's really difficult meeting a chica who is not a prostitute.

my tag line.. just so you know that I don't have anything against HDR, the building.
