Being young african american in the GOOD OLD USA, I know there is discrimination every where, but to me this seems like in your face type of discrimination. Is there anything I should be aware of when I travel to San Jose....Since from the article there seems to be a problem against darker skinned individuals.

Being that I was in the army the only color that is known is green, and being an american the only color that the wolrd know us by is Green "US DOLLARS."

There have been a number of CRT brothers who are black and have posted reports of their adventures in CR. I can not recall a single one saying they felt that had encountered any racism. Certainly not by the chicas who as you correctly surmise only know one color USD $$ green.

As the article also stated it appears that foreign tourist are spared a great deal of bigotry because of the perception they are wealthy.



All in all I do not think you will have any problem having a great time in CR.

I would interpret that as they WANT Asian/oriental OR Dark skinned help to apply. Looks like reverse discrimination to me ...

If it was me and looking for a service person in CR, I would say "anyone attractive who can smile, count change, and greet customers within 2 minutes of sitting down should apply". Unfortunately, not many could honestly apply in CR...

You got that right, Tman.........they're certainly not very customer service oriented.

Isn't the laid back, easy does it attitude one of the reasons we love Costa Rica? If so then you have to love the poor customer service since the attitude we say that we love is responsible. Next time someone rushes to serve you, you should calm them down, tell them you aren't in a hurry, in a concerned way tell them to relax, take it easy, there's no reason to rush...... let's help keep the service expectation really low!

From what I have seen I do not feel discrimination is a big issue in CR. I know one dark Tica very well from Limon & we hang out & have known each other very well for many years. She likes to party ever time I see her out. Ever time she spots me she just can't stop laughing it seems. Sometimes people just make this funny kind of connect & no mater what is said it comes out funny. She has never let on like she feels there is a problem like discrimination in CR. God I love her long dark legs narrow hips & great bubble butt ! Drives one CRAZY!

If you are amongst some of the more plastic Ticos that are into the social climbing scene & you show up with a Nica I believe you will be viewed with them looking down their nose at you. For me I could care less as good people are good people but many Ticos seem to be prejudice toward Nicas. Also many Ticos I have found do not like the Chinese that are directly from China because they do not integrate very well with Latin Culture. They tend to stay to their own kind being very serious. YMMV

People always seem to have no end to how much ignorance & hate they can carry between their ears which constantly drags our world down.

I sense & the Nicas I meet show signs of discrimination. Many will tell me they are Tica figuring we can not catch the difference in their accent or maybe they think we will pay more for a Tica than Nica? Once at the hotel when they have to present their ID the truth comes out. I tell them Gringos could care less for the most part where you are from. We just want a nice woman that we can share a good experience with & not have any problems.

One trip I hung out with a really nice black guy from NY. He was really fun & a laugh a minute. He thought the Latinas were prejudice towards blacks but from what I saw he was plenty busy. It was fun for me to take him around & it worked well for him since he didn’t speak Spanish & I translated all the details he wanted with the Latinas he wanted to see. I did see some Latinas that walked away from him as he touched them to let him know he was interested in them. Some that seemed turned off by him I talked to & asked if I could help with the translation & get them connected. Well he was right some did not like his race as well as others but not because of the skin color as much as other things. Many Latinas said your friend is a big guy & guys like him are usually well hung. They did not want to get this sore as it would be a job hazard I guess. Some of the other Latinas didn’t worry about this. It is always fun to see how things really work .

My color doesn’t seem to bother anyone but me? I am usually glowing red from one of those miracles of modern medicines like Viagra. I guess they figure I may be hard but little Zipmiester will still not be any problem for them. Hey we all find someone to have fun with & that’s all we need isn’t it?

We all have personal preferences I bet but thank god for all the different shapes, sizes & colors it makes it far less boring. These prejudices which I feel are small there can work out very well for some I would think. I like the Morenas & many of the Nicas because they seem to be much sweeter & treat you better than some stuck up hot light bitch. Hey I like them all as long as they are nice, attractive & above all clean.

If we could all only practice that one rule of do un to others ....... this Globe would spin a lot smoother!

I bet that if he were white, size wouldn't be an issue. Isn't the perception of a big one what attract women (in USA) to black guys? (I bet most of the time they're disappointed )There's more racism in LA than you might realize.

This surprises me.

I can never understand their reasoning. They won't "date" a clean, well groomed black guy, but they'll "date" an old, fat, smelly, bald white guy??? Doesn't make sense to me, but then again, WTF do I know. I always thought that a black guy's hundred dollar bill was the same size as mine.
