When I discovered Costa Rica and mongering in 2003, I had a similar idea to start a website and establish a travel agency to bring fellow mongers to the gulch, I had the advertising and marketing plans and thought introducing clients to proven performers and giving tours, etc. would be a fun money maker.
I had a wealthy friend ready to invest and bankroll everything, we plotted and planned, I even met a guy down here with a fledgling established travel agency who wanted in.
I talked with a Costa Rica atty about the plan and got an earful. He jokingly told me I would have to get a different atty because he would be using all his time bailing me out of trouble and would neglect his other clients. Seriously, he warned me why it was a bad idea and the same sad fate that has befallen CD would be awaiting me.
I've made many stupid and irresponsible choices in my life but this was one I had the smarts to avoid.
I've also been warned not to have lewd pics on my cellphone of girls I met, your phone can be reviewed at the airport and if the girl looks young there could be a problem. if mongers insist on doing this (and I once did) I recommend emailing these pics to your email and removing them from your phone or camera asap.
From what I've learned, mongers are generally safe (but not always) encountering girls in MP's, Del Rey, etc. and bragging to their buddies about their encounters but once the line is crossed where a monger is encouraging others to do the same via social media whether they profit financially or not, they place themselves at risk.
As for CD, I don't know him but I met him once, he was cordial to me. It does appear he knowingly pushed the envelope and placed himself in danger, but at his age, 4 years in a CR jail could very well be a death sentence. I hope he somehow gets off maybe with being banned from Costa Rica but people who know Costa Rica are not optimistic.
