Isn't that the group that questions have arisen about?

Peter,
You must've misunderstood my PM. This is a link to donate to OUR effort to help orpahanage. Thinking about it more and more, I think we should donate at least a part of the money to the earthquake relief. OT better yet, if somebody would willing to take some money and buy some of the things they need (non-perishable food, canned milk, bottled water, toiletries) and donate it on our behalf.

I noted in Paco Loco’s post, the following statement from an article: “The U.S. Embassy has donated the use of Black Hawk helicopters for rescue efforts, and $50,000 for humanitarian aid.”

It is really kind of an embarrassment that is all the U.S. government appears to be willing to do. Of course some would say that it about the same they did proportionally in New Orleans. It is no wonder Central America including Costa Rica is turning to the Communist Chinese.

No one would ever accuse me of defending the Bush administration, whom Professor DiIulio termed Mayberry Machiavelli’s, but in all fairness, and in defense of the Embassy, $50K is probably the only money they are authorized in their “emergency fund” without contacting Washington.

I for one will write and call my US Senators and my Congressman to ask for more U.S. attention and aid.

.....how much an hour of "blade time" on a Blackhawk helicopter was worth? Plus the crew, plus the spare parts, the maintenance, etc. Helicopters can do things planes can't, but unlike a plane, which wants to stay in the air as long as it is moving, a helicoper can't "glide". It has to beat the air into submission in order to stay aloft. So, for every hour of flying, there are many, many hours of maintenance required.

But, for rescue work, nothing beats a Blackhawk. It is a very good airframe.

We made the first donation from the fund while I was in CR last week.

We donated $500.00 to the CR Red Cross. I met with DiegoC who will take the money to them, and hopefully give more information.

Having been near the epicenter (volcano) when it happened, I was in, and saw the devastation.

I have a question for those who have donated. Since it is split over helping Ch*ldren, should we donate the rest of the funds to the Red Cross? I am especially interested in those who have donated, but all input is appreciated.

I sure would not have a problem with my donation going to the red cross. They help everyone plus low admin costs.

After seeing the before and after shots that ID linked today I am further reinforced in my belief the red cross is a great place to receive our donated funds. Also there would be no negative connotations associated with the gift only possible good will.

True, one can donate in a way that makes sure the money is spent in Costa Rica. Lets not forget the orphanage as well. Money has to be getting tight since the likelyhood of local donations on the decline.

With so many board members coming in Feb., is there a list of items we can bring down? I always bring a big suitcase for a three day trip. So plenty of room for donations. Will give some cash too.Would be nice to see each menber bring maybe $10-20 bucks worth of stuff from Wal-Mart.

Brothers--I am NOT trying to play the big-shot or embarrass anyone else but am sending Brother Santa's Bro another $100 donation--to use any way he sees fit. Need is need. and the Cruz Roja's is immediate.

P. S. I thought about it again and threw in another $25 for that valiant policeman's family. Haven't heard much about that recently. If that ain't happenin', put it into the General Orphanage/ Cruz Roja Fund. Again, that's just me...
