Hi All
I have a question for the experts here - I arrive tomorrow, (Mon 10th, staying at the SL 10th-13th), about 10-00pm and was wondering what the chica count would be this time of night at the SL or whether I'd need to go over KL or BM. First night in town so would prefer to arrive, unpack, hook up for 2-3 hours and then just crash..

I'm not at all familiar with the traffic flows at different times of day\night and this is my first stay at the SL, last time I stayed at the DR.

(Not officially a newbie as made a trip to CR 3 years ago. Most of my mongering is done in Mexico - Mexico City. Guadalajara, Monterrey.)

If any of you see me. I'm 42, 5'10", 170 lbs with an English accent.

Any comments ?

Shagger.

for a monday nite, SL will be probably be a little slow at 10 pm. SL usually peaks activity around 7 pm or so. head to key largo for best selection.

You're gonna have to hit DR or KL. Since you havent been here in 3 years and might not know the exact way, cab it. But normally thats a really safe 5 minute walk, no matter what time of day.

Thanks guys I figured this would be the case. I'll plan on a quick beer in the SL just in case and then head on down to KL \ BM.
I've no doubt there'll be something to my liking.

Any other ideas for a Monday night ? Are any of the Strip Clubs worth a look ?

Take a cab even if you know the exact way. There are no absolutely safe walks in the gulch at night. Why chance ruining your vacation for a few bucks?

I disagree, to an extent. I walk everywhere, even at night, and havent had any problems so far. I mean, use common sense and you ll be fine. Dont be drunk, know where you're going, walk with a purpose, be aware of your surroundings. I mean, damn, some of you guys act like San Jose is the murder capital of the world and once the sun goes down its just anarchy. Its not the case. Its like any other city out there, have some street smarts and you ll be fine.

Great plan. Unpack at the SL and have a beer. You stand a very good chance of meeting other guys that want to do the same. Take a taxi together and head over to the HDR. Don't forget Key Largo opens at 10 pm so keep crossing the street to listen to live music and checking out the action over there! Have fun, don't tell then that it is your first time there, and stay safe.

Pura Vida

CLN buddy....just because you have not gotten jumped YET, just means you have been lucky. Do what you are gonna do, but don't you think the smart thing is to tell someone to take a taxi?? Especially since it is about 500c?? Especially since the dude hasn't been there in 3 years!!

If you walk 100 times in a row and make it safely, you saved yourself $50. But if you get jumped and beaten to a pulp OR WORSE on trip 101....get the idea?

Don't confuse luck with good safety sense is the message.

Not to be a nitpicker BUT to tstef..1oo taxi trips at 500col (close to $1) is $100 and not $50. Even so I certainly suggest using taxis after dark.

My experience at SL so far is that every single guy that looks American is a CRT member (if not a poster, a lurker)... Ive met a half dozen great guys so far and have learned a ton just shooting the shit at the SL bar... Don't be shy!

Yep take a cab do not walk around by yourself at night anywhere down there...Very cheap insurance!!!!...when you leave the Rey hit the main drag to your left from the coffee bar ask for a "maria"..."meter" in english...should be 500 colones...stay away from the pirate cabbies right out front of the Rey....Also get a card from the sportsmans it has the address on the back...Give it to the cabbie sometimes they like to give you the unwanted long drive to your hotel so they can suck more money out of you...............Svenson

Do me a favor and please re-read my original post, I DID tell the guy to take a cab since he hadnt been here in 3 years. At the same time, the walk from SL to HDR is fairly safe. Everytime I've walked through that park in front of the INS building, the Fuerza Policia have been there roughly 85% of the time.
If you're new to a city, of course I advocate taking a cab, its a no brainer. But now that I've been here roughly 5 weeks, I'm not jumping in a cab just because its dark out and I need to go 3 blocks.

Seriously, do none of you guys ever walk anywhere after dark? I mean, not just here, but in any city? "Oh noes, dont walk after dark, you'll get shot!" lol...cmon guys, really?

Well the corrupt cops are just as bad as the perps down there.....You are batting 1000..Without ever being hassled by the cops or thugs...eventually the odds will catch up to you why chance it for a dollar?...a dollar?...Take a cab at night..........I have personally talked to people who have been attacked by the trannies in the park....also that have been shaked down by the cops by the park....not very good odds in my book..................Svenson
