Going back labor day week-end for my 2nd trip (staying at La Amistad).
When leaving SJO my 1st trip I couldn't get over the gorgeous girls working at the shops in the airport.
Just curious, are you able to get to those shops on your way IN to SJO and second, has anyone had any luck with any of those girls or am I just living a pipedream?

If you speak pretty good Spanish, have some money, and have a little bit of game (you can articulate without sounding like you are eating 25¢ gumballs), then you have a chance. If your only Spanish consists of "hola, how much?"... then it's a pipedream.

I don't think you can buy the liquor from there after you get into SJO. Depending on what gate you come in (Gate 2 or 3), you'll walk right by the duty-free liquor shop with the 2 hot chica's, but when you buy something at that shop, they always ask for your boarding pass, and send it over to the gate for you to pick up before you board your plane. So I don't think you can buy it on your way in. Someone else might say different, I'm just not sure.

You're right about the hot looking chica's though. There's 2 of them at the last duty-free shop before you get to gates 2 / 3. I usually take a free shot of whatever they're giving away, just to flirt with them! Pipedream ???? Yeah... probably! :?

Thanks for the quick replies--you guys are awesome!
Well, I'll give it a shot. One was real friendly last time on the way out (not that that means anything) so I thought I'll give it a shot!

I've bought from there before on my way in, on my first or second trip. They only ask for your boarding pass if you are getting on a plane. Otherwise, your passport will do fine. I don't use that store any more because now I try to get through immigration ASAP, and there is a great duty free in the luggage area. But yes, you can buy from there if you want to take your chances on some hot non pros, which is why I go to Costa Rica in the first place.

So ciaociao,
any tips (re: places to meet) on hooking up with non-pros you'd like to share?

What he said. They will just give you the bag instead of bringing it to the gate.

Cujo, a little of both but probably more of the latter-- But mixing it up with non-pros does sound intriguing!

Then its simple, "go for whatcha' know". You don't have to ask anyone who's game and who isn't. You'll be able to ascertain that yourself through the exchange you have with her right?

Chances are its a pipe dream because its just not the setting for that. So like MG said, instead be playfully flirtatious and pass on through. If after time she remembers you, then perhaps you can go from there..

Two years back on my flight in I stopped at the duty free downstairs near baggage claims area and there was this very hot tica out front peddling the poison. She was super model class in the face. Just not very tall.

I went in and bought a couple of bottles of Ron Zacape 23 anos, flirted a lil bit here and there.

She could have been a contestant in any bikini, wet t shirt, Next Top Model, Miss Universe, Miss Playa, Nicest ass, Biggest butt, Nicest breast, Best legs contest anywhere in the world.

I had a fat knot in my pockets upon arrival. I was flasing cash and grinning with her. You know how it tis when you first hit town. She was good until I gave her my number and hotel info.

She gave me the arrogant American that thinks he can have anyone look and ask me why I was giving her my number. Flame crash burn!

I smiled, took my info and number back, grabbed my bottles, pushed my cart with luggage out to the Gauntlet where my driver was waiting for me to be wisked away to my hotel.

My first chica that evening was free.

The chica at the Duty Free would have cost me a small fortune I am sure.

Karma!

Easy answer - regular ticas, that are young and hot, aren't interested in flabby older americans. Money might help... but they are just as picky as any other girl in the looks department.

Sorry man... this is reality. Hookers = fantasy. Regulars = reality.

I'm 57 & overweight though not jiggly-fat. Overall in pretty good shape except I simply weigh too much. Blue eyes & [now] I can get along okay with my spanish though I certainly butcher their language.

I suspect the "no chance" comments are pretty accurate for no-spanish gringos that only occassionally visit. I visited 12 times last year, 10 the year before. I'll be heading back in a week to visit my novia (8th trip this year).

I had no problem finding my 1st novia or my second. Been with her now a little more than two years (she's 32, no Ch*ldren & VERY good looking with a very tiny ass). We have talked a lot about why she went out with me the first time - blue eyes, body shape (surprise to me!!) and being a gringo. As of today (after about 25 months) I have certainly given her a lot (from her perspective, not from a gringa perspective) but she's never asked for anything other than very few dollars at a time for cosmetics or to pay her cell phone (about $10). She does NOT want to move to the US & does NOT want to learn english. All is good as I suspect my wife would not approve....

She knows I used to play with the putas and we often stop at the HDR for casino action & a few drinks so she can make fun of the gringos. Overall it's good entertainment for both of us. She's never been a puta & didn't know about the HDR before I took her there. Her family is great (mom, sister, two brothers) and she now lives in San Ramon instead of Zapote. She has no problems tagging along when I tour guide for friends at the various establishments in town. Quite frankly I have no interest to playing with the putas since I hooked up with her - she gives me EVERYTHING I want, whenever I want it, no questions asked & she's gorgeous. I met her at the food court in Mall San Pedro.

This was not an isolated instance - I've been hit on several times by ladies in SJO (must be a perverted parallel universe issue or something...). I can't speak for the others' motives but so far I've been quite happy. The insurance policy -- it's now clear to me that it truly is a man's word and if things go south finding another novia will not be difficult at all. Another issue that makes gringos attractive to the Ticas is their displeasure with the Tico machista mentality. I've always been kind to women & and been told many, many times by my novia and other Ticas and latinas that I've VERY different. I suspect all but the most macho gringos would get similar results.

Just my comments...

/Dan D.
