So I was playing craps at Casino Colonial last week.

The table was full and a gringo joined the game. After a few minutes of playing he started belittling the dealers: "where the Phuck are my chips", "come on guys this job is not that hard", "I wanted 6 not 8 stupid ass".

Everybody in the table was uncomfortable and I was ashamed to be a Gringo. I sometimes ask myself, what the hell is wrong with people?

Did you tell him to shut up and be respectful? Or did you sit there and say nothing, letting him go on thinking it was acceptable to act that way?

This reminds me of an article I read a few days ago about Ugly Americans in Paris. A tv show hired a couple to act as loudly, boorishly and arrogant as they could. What they found was surprising. The French seemed to eat it up. The only person who yelled at them was an american. :-)

I would take this with a grain of salt since the couple were professional actors and would have that working for them, unlike a regular guy/girl who just comes off as boorish and arrogant.

I does make me cringe when I go abroad and come across the few who don't take the time/effort to learn/understand the place, culture or the people. But this is not limited to us Americans. I have met my share of boorish and arrogant British,French and German tourists here in the states.

CLN20,
I don't fault people for not saying anything. Yes, it would be nice if somebody told him to shut the Phuck up and be respectful, but that's the casino management's job. But if they want his money so badly that they're willing to let their employees get abused, so be it. Plus, you don't know what this Phucker is liable to do if you do tell him to stfu.

I'm with Orange...you might find some humorous way to say something on the DL. But what if the guy goes off, tries to get in a fight with you and it's on from there?

I tried that once with a moron at the airport...said something very quietly to him...to which he replied loudly, "shut your F'ing mouth MF'er." Well he continued on and he was eventually drug by his legs all the way up those stairs at the end of the ticket counter!

Moral of the story, if you think you can do it quietly go ahead. But the reality is you are better off getting the proper people involved. Just MHO of course.

I guess it is best not to mingle in such things. So far it has kept me out of jail for 2009 8) (applause). But for the most part at times I WISH a loud motherfucker would get louder after I said something.

Don't ever be surprised if you find yourself giving a beatdown in CR and other ticos just watching not doing a damn thing about it...

Especially if it's to another gringo. But yes, jail, trouble, red tape, that's all bad news.

You're absolutely correct! I was in Mexico with 2 white guys that clearly looked American. We were a relatively quiet crew certainly not making a lot of noise. A gay Canadian, whom I'll refer to as the Ganadian, started telling us that we think we own the world and that Bush is the worst. We never started a discussion with him and we certainly didn't want to talk politics on our vacation. The Ganadian was rude and loud. We had to put him in his place, but it was done in a tasteful fashion.

Ugly Americans are bad and plentiful, but people in general can be mean now a days. I've been finding a lot more Eurpeans getting an attitude lately. Just my 2 cents.

We as Hobbiest or what other form of self description, do what a dog can do in it's simplest form. What seperates us from the AssHole Gringo is how we behave and treat there country. It behouves me to see ugly behavior while enjoying our hobbie, especially when we are supposed to be having fun.

Whether you choose to try and correct bad behavior is up to you. The older I get the more I think things through before acting, but then again, I hate nothing more than a loud mouth. Sitting in the DR I would say something, on a International Flite? probably not.

I'd be that guy. There has been more than once that I've told a guy to stop being a dick, and its escalated. But I'm not gonna lie, I pick my spots. Being 6'1, 265 helps as well. Sometimes they dont realize, and will back down once a million eyes are upon them. Or, they could fight you, which is why 2 knuckles on my right hand are now flattened lol.

We really have to be careful in another country. My first inclination would be to give the guy looks of disgust which probably would do absolutely nothing. If he persisted, I would most likely go find the manager and explain that one of the players was being quite disturbing to the game.

The Colonial has had a couple of shootings and murders over the years. I think they were gaming problems from the outside brought inside as opposed to some obnoxious turd turning violent when confronted about his behavior.

Once on a beautiful sunny afternoon, as the baseball game was getting out, I was driving in the bumper to bumper traffic. Some drunk fool was urinating in public including in front of my small K*ds. I said something like “you sick phuck” at which time he pointed his little pecker at me and began to wave it.

I had just been given training on and had received a large can of industrial grade Oleoresin Capsicum or pepper spray. I sprayed that guy down like a tagger would spray a freshly painted wall. It was so delightful to see him fall to the pavement, writhing in pain. It wasn’t exactly a legal use of the spray but other motorists cheered my efforts. It was very effective.

My usual tactic with an idiot like this guy at the craps table is simple.First I will look to the person he is insulting and start making comments. Of course in espanol. All the while looking at this gringo joto to get the point across that we are discussing him.The comments could be about the weather or anything. But the asshole will automatically assume it is about him/her. Drives them crazy and they usually stomp away.

Did this twice over the last two trips. Once at Amistad with a 400 pound gringa that did not seem to like the directions she was given.I was going out the door at the time and heard the conversation.I walked up to the front desk and told the guy there in espanol "that if it was a box of donuts she could find it no problem".Fat chick noticed him trying to stifle a laugh and waddled out.

Yeah...I was on the balcony of the New York Bar, with my friend from New York several years ago. An old, drunken gringo [prabably an ex-pat] came out of the New York Bar and stumbled and fell on the step in front of the bar. :? A Tico, who happened by, came to the assistance of the fallen gringo....but was quickly told to "get the hell away" by the fallen gringo [granted, the fallen gringo was a complete asshole towards the Tico that tried to help him]. Anyway, a Canadian who was sitting on the balcony, along side us [and no, we didn't know him] yells "phucking gringo!" My friend procedes to ask him "what do you think you are?" :? He says "I'm not a gringo, I'm a Canadian" [disclaimer here: I don't know if a Canadian is a gringo or not....and don't really care]. :? When the potential for a fight started brewing, I suggested that my friend and I get a booth inside the bar, which we did. Shortly after, the Canadian came back to our booth, trying to pick a fight with my New York friend. I intervened and stopped it before it progressed any further, as did the security guard for the New York Bar.

I was playing blackjack in Biloxi last year next to a guy in his mid 60s. He was a lot bigger than me and had been hitting the booze pretty hard. He started bitching (and swearing) when the dealers tried to separate his cards when he said he wanted to split or otherwise rearranging them. "Just tell me what you want, I'll do it!" was his retort.

Now anyone who has ever played in a casino knows that the dealers are going to do what they want with your cards in a shoe game where the cards are dealt face-up. They also know that once the cards come out of the shoe you are not allowed to touch your chips and you NEVER touch the cards. It is the house rule and the dealers will arrange them according to the play. It is how they are trained and there is a protocol so the "eye in the sky" knows what the play is since it doesn't have audio.

When the time was right I whispered to him, "You've been playing long enough to know that they are just doing as they are told. You also know it doesn't make any difference in the outcome of the hand." He sort of "harrumphed" and said, "I don't like them phucking with my cards" but we both knew I was right. He kept his dignity but the point was made and he got off the dealer's asses.

I usually don't say anything but the entire table was uncomfortable and I figured this was one case where it was warranted.

When he finally cashed up and left the table he actually shook the dealer's hand. He knew he was in the wrong and this was his way of apologizing without actually saying so.

The help there is totally bs. When you are winning and a gringo they screw around with you. Ugly American? It is real money you are playing with and the Horsshoe beats them hands down.

They phuck around with you and always favor the Tico's. Come on now!!!!
