Hey guys,

I'm looking for a job in Costa Rica. I know I will never make what I make here in the US, but would like to live in Costa Rica for a year or so. Currently I'm a Customer Care Manager for a company called Park Square Homes. I have a residential contractors licence and am a Graduate of FSU, and I attended the University of Alabama. My current salary is 84k. I need at least 30k in Costa Rica. Anyone have any suggestions?

Are you Tico? I think it's difficult for a gringo to get any kind of a job in Costa Rica........and 30k a year ??  :?

My suggestion: STAY IN THE U.S......making your 84K......and visit CR often! :D

You did not mention fluency in Spanish in your qualifications was that an oversight? You would appear to have no special skills that would qualify you to obtain legal permission to work. Lacking legal employment documents you might be able to find work at a sports book for $5 to 6.00 per hour but I do not see anything that would fall in the 30K range.

Rolltide -

You don't need a job. You need help!

Didn't you spam CRT site before your first trip about how you were going to this and that and after your trip you kept a very low profile, up until now looking for an apartment and now a job.

What happened? Did you fall in love with a chica?

I agree with Zebra here. "My suggestion: STAY IN THE U.S......making your 84K......and visit CR often!"

Even if you were a Tico you would never make the type of money you need to sustain yourself in Costa Rica. Unless you want to live like a Tico then it's possible, but unlikely.

You need to find youself a good wingman before you book another trip, or your phucked!! And I don't mean that in a good way.

TP,

Read Rolltide's report in the TRIP REPORT section and you'll get a better understanding of what is going on here. It seems he did indeed "fall in love with a chica."................

All things considered......I think the advice I gave him on this thread would apply well to his situation in the TRIP REPORT section.

RT:

A quote from your post. While many of the veterans and other have given you good advice about "your new love", whether you heed them or not is another story.

Trying to make 30K (probably in the top 50% of wages) a year in a country, where by your own admission "you suck" at the language, is like me believing that I will find a 30's something virgin, on her first day at the BM, she willl never hustle because she met me and loves me. I guess it could happen, but the probability is slim to none. Take the time to become fluent in Spanish before you attempt to move to CR and expect to join "the upper crust".

You seem very well meaning, but I ask you to consider what you would tell a friend if he told this story to you. Is the risk greater than the reward? I am not here to tell you what to do one way or the other. Lord knows I've had enough screw ups, and successes, in my life. I just ask you to step outside the situation as if a friend came to you for advice. Would you tell him to quit his job, drop everything, and move to CR after less than a week with a woman? As a friend, I honestly would not give that advice.

My last thought, true love is forever, true love will endure. There is no need to rush into something that will endure and last forever.

Whatever your choice, I wish you health, happiness and prosperity in your life.

Try HP call center in Costa Rica.
You could get up to $2K/month if you have technical skills in software developmente or something similar.

Try working with the Peoples Temple, as you seem to be a Kool-aid drinker. Just messing with you man.

Try teaching English, it pays about six bucks a hour, but if I am wrong I am sure ID will correct me.

Hp won't touch you with a meter pole unless you have the docs.
If you go to the CR consulet web site it will spell it out for you about employment and unless you are married to a tica or have a employer vouch that you are the only one that can do a call center job you are in.

If you want to know Ticos are really protective about jobs which is understandably because for every call center job there are 100 master degree ticos waiting in line.

advice is stay home and enjoy Costa Rica on the week ends unless you marrie a tica! :) Like I did!

RollTide,

at the very least keep your job. If you have to bring them over here. That way when she leaves you, you will still have $41,000.00 per year.

You really need a reality check. You have what I call white night fever complicated by a hard on. You want to rescue this woman who gave you the best sex of your life. You seem like a nice guy and you are going to be eaten alive. Try this if your parents are alive (I say this because I don't know the answer) go and tell your Mother all about this girl you have met. The complete truth no half truths. See what she has to say about what you want to do. The women you have met may be the wonderful person in the world but you come from two different worlds. Here's is about survival and always will be. She may truly care for you but to survive she would run you over with a bus in a heart beat.

I know that you are not going to listen to what we have to say but at least don't burn bridges at home and protect your assets. Give her all you want but don't ever let her get in a position to take what you don't want to give.

Good luck
Xman
